Benedetto Guitar: Lot 17

Born in Trenton, New Jersey, Charles H. Chapman (19502011) became fascinated by the guitar when he was just seven years old. That led him to Berklee College of Music, and after graduation he joined the faculty, where he remained for 31 years. A world-class musician and recording artist, Chapman shared the stage at guitar festivals and shows with such luminaries as Martin Taylor, Kenny Burrell, Joe Negri, Jimmy Bruno, Frank Vignola, and John Pisano. Chapman wrote nine books on guitar technique, repertoire, and improvisation, and as a music journalist he interviewed many of the worlds best known guitar players, writing more than 500 articles for publications including Downbeat, Just Jazz Guitar, and Guitar Player. He was the recipient of numerous awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Kirkmichael International Guitar Festival in Kirkmichael, Scotland, and the Massachusetts Meritorious Achievement Citation. After a career that spanned nearly four decades, Chapman will be remembered by many for his music, writing, and certainly by former students. As is the case with many guitarists, Chapman owned numerous guitars, however his Benedetto Manhattan was his pride and joy.

In most cases, the reserve will be set below the estimated range, but in no case will it exceed the estimates listed. A representative of Skinner, Inc. will execute such reserves by bidding for the consignor. In any event and whether or not a lot is subject to a reserve, the auctioneer may reject any bid or raise not commensurate with the value of such lot. 2.
