Description This is an opportunity for a Master of Science student to work with technologyleading radio network traffic analysis. Todays mobile networks provide Internet services to a major part of the worlds population. As mobile network capacity is limited, it is important to design networks to make efficient usage of available resources. One way of achieving this is by "smart" delivery of IP-based services over the radio interface. This in turn requires detailed knowledge of the characteristics of the IP traffic, with specific concern regarding the resource limitations that apply to cellular radio communication. This thesis work will focus on analyzing packet data traffic from various cellular networks worldwide; main IP delivery characteristics shall be presented, e.g. for different mobile devices and for different services such as video and Voice-over-IP. This requires pre-analysis of the data, then developing an automated method to produce a condensed performance summary of the different network recordings. The work offers a great deal of freedom in designing such a method, a possible approach is to use concepts from the field of Data Mining, such as pattern recognition and machine-learning algorithms. The result of the thesis should be concluded in a presentation and a report. The report may also include methodology improvements and changes in the data analysis process. Scope 30 points (20 weeks), 1 person The company and the unit Ericsson is the world-leading supplier of mobile network technologies such as GSM, HSPA and LTE, used for connecting smartphones, computers, devices, sensors, and machines. In this ever-evolving area of radio communications, Development Unit Radio has a unit responsible for securing future technology leadership: Systems & Technology. Within this unit, the Concepts & Standards group works with radio network concept development for mobile broadband and beyond, typically aiming at product implementation in 3-5 years. The work covers both existing and emerging radio access technologies (GSM, HSPA, WiFi, LTE, LTE Advanced), and gives a superb insight into radio access concepts and products.
