Stanley is proud of its long history of producing some of the worlds best wood chisels, a tradition that continues to this very day. Stanley began making chisels in the mid-1800s, and is one of the few tool manufacturers that has continually expanded its line over the years by designing new wood chisels. Today, Stanley makes nearly three dozen chisels in a wide range of sizes and styles. The tools are engineered to meet the no-excuse demands of both ne woodworkers and professional carpenters. With a respectful nod to its rich history, Stanley pays tribute to its past with its line of traditional wood-handled Sweetheart chisels and Bailey chisels. Sweetheart tools are named after William H. Hart who was president of Stanley from 1884 to 1915. Bailey chisels commemorate a line of tools that was originally designed by legendary Boston toolmaker Leonard Bailey. The company recently expanded its chisel collection with a line of FatMax chisels, arguably some of the toughest, most durable chisels on the market today. Each features a hardened, tempered carbon alloy steel blade thats beveled on three sides, then precision ground to a razor-sharp cutting edge. The blade is permanently fused onto a bi-metal, sure-grip handle thats extremely crack resistant. And unlike lesser-quality chisels, FatMax chisels are equipped with steel striking caps, which allow you to strike the chisel with a steel-headed hammer without damaging the handle. Stanley manufactures a full range of standard-length chisels for general woodworking and carpentry, but it also makes several short-blade chisels, which are ideal for working in tight spaces and cramped quarters; they also t easily into tool-belt pouches. Along with its extensive offering of high-quality chisels, this tool category also includes Stanleys popular line of nail sets. The nail sets are sold individually or in convenient 3-piece sets. The nail set might be one of the simplest tools ever produced, but in true Stanley fashion the company went back to the drawing board in an attempt to enhance the tools performance, quality and durability. The results: Cushion Grip Nail Sets, which are jacketed in thick rubber for outstanding comfort, and the revolutionary FatMax Interchangeable Nail Set thats 2 nail sets in 1.
