1.-lNTRODUCClN.
ElPacketTraceresunsimuladorderoutersydeswitches.Esunprogramamuytil
parafamiliarizarseconelusodeloscomandosdellOS(Elsistemaoperativodelos
dispositivos de red de Cisco). Permite componer diferentes topologas y ponerlas a
prueba.Comoveremos,suaprendizajeesrpidoeintuitivo.Susencillez,versatilidady
comodidaddeusohacendelunaherramientamuyaprovechable.
El Packet Tracer deber facilitrselo su instructor. No es posible obtenerlo
directamenteconlacuentadeestudiante.Recuerdequeesunprogramapropiedadde
Ciscoyestprohibidasudifusinaterceraspersonas.
2.-lNSTALAClN
Enlafiguraanteriorsemuestraelprogramadeinstalacin.Simplementehagadoble
clicksobreelicono,seactivarelasistente.Mostraremoselprocesoacontinuacin.

opcionesdelprograma.

3.-PRESENTAClNDELPACKETTRACER.
ObserveelentornodetrabajodelPacketTracerenlafigurainferior.Comopuedever
esdeunaagradablesencillez.
Distinguiremoscuatroreasprincipalesenesteentorno:
1.-Labarrademen(recuadradaenrojo)quedisponedetresopciones:File,Options
yHelp.
2.-Labarra de herramientascondoceiconos.Situandoel punterosobre los iconos
aparecersudescripcin.

3.- Los modos de trabajo: Topologa, Simulacin y Tiempo real. Se accede a ellos
eligiendo la pestaa correspondiente. En cada modo de trabajo dispondr de
diferenteselementosparautilizar.
3.1.-Enelmododetopologaestoselementossonlosdispositivosderedysus
conexiones:

4.-EMPEZANDOATRABAJAR.
En el modo de topologa podr usted implementar diferentes diseos de redes en
funcin de lo que desee probar. Vamos a ilustrar el proceso mediante un sencillo
ejemploquedetallaremospasoporpaso.Seraconvenientequeleyeseestequincon
elprogramaabiertoparapoderirrealizandolosejerciciosquevayamossugiriendo.
Comenzaremostrabajandoenlaopcinpordefecto.Esdecir,dejandosinmarcarlas
casillasSimpleModeyConsoleMode.Simarcaalgunadeellas,algunospasosdel
proceso de diseo de la red quedan automatizados. Ahora nos interesa mostrarle
todoslosdetallesdelproceso.

Puede resultarle simptico dejar marcado Sound y Animation. A continuacin, lo
primeroquetendremosquehaceresaadirlosdispositivosderedalreadetrabajo.
Recuerdequedebemosestarenelmododetopologa.Estatareaestansencillacomo
hacerclicksobreeliconodeldispositivoelegido,arrastrarhastalaubicacindeseada
yvolverahacerclick.Pruebeacolocarunrouter.
Ahora,alhacerclicksobreelreadetrabajo,seabrirlaventanadeconsolaasociada
aeserouter.Demomentocerraremosestasventanas.

Vamos a aadir seguidamente otro router y dos switches. Colquelos segn se
muestraenlaimagen.Sitienequeborraralgndispositivodelreadetrabajo,useel
icono Remove. Basta hacer click sobre removey luego sobre el equipo dered o la
conexinaborrar
Ya hemos colocado nuestros equipos de red, ahora necesitamos establecer
conexionesentreellos.Paracomenzarmarqueconelpunterosobreeliconoconnect.

Alhacerclicksobreconnect,elprogramalepedirqueleindiqueeltipodeconexin
quequiereemplear.Vamosprimeramenteaconectarlosdosroutersentresi,paraello
usaremos una conexin serial. Como sabe por la teora, uno de los routers har el
papeldeDCEyelotroeldeDTE.Unavezelegidoeltipodeconexinhacemosclick
sobre el dispositivo donde queremos establecerla. Si la ventana de conexiones le
oculta algn dispositivo (lo cual no es infrecuente), pinche en la barra del ttulo y
desplceladondenolemoleste.
EnnuestrocasomarcaremosSerialDCEyharemosclickenelRouter0.Entonces,se
nospreguntarqueinterfazvamosausar.ElegiremoslaSerial2/0.Silaconexinse
coloc inadvertidamente en una posicin erronea, lleve el extremo libre al icono
Cancel.

Supunteroesahoraelextremodelaconexin.Desplacelohastaelotrorouteryall
marqueunclick.Denuevotendrqueelegirlainterfazaconectar.Nosotroshemos
seleccionadolaSerial2/0delRouter1.
Alcerrarlaconexin,elenlaceserialaparecersimbolizadomedianteeliconodeun
rayo,comoeshabitualenlosmaterialesdidcticosdeCisco.
ConectemosahoraelRouter0conelSwitch0mediantecabledecobrerecto.Este
tipodeconexinapareceenelmendelprogramacomoCopperStraight-trough.El
cable seleccionado representa las variedades de categora 5, 5e y 6 tanto en UTP
comoapantallado.

Hemos elegido los puertos 0/0 de Fastethernet tanto para el router como para el
switch.Completeelrestodelasconexioneshastaobtenerelresultadodelasiguiente
figura.
Para completar nuestra red, uniremos dos PCs a cada switch. Como en este caso
tenemos que incorporar cuatro elementos iguales, el Packet Tracer nos facilita una
opcin ms rpida. Haga doble click sobre el icono PC, observar que el icono
disminuye de tamao. Ahora vaya clikeando en el rea de trabajo para situar los
equipos.

Ahora pruebe a conectar los PCs con los switches conforme a lo que sabe por la
teora.Sienalgnmomentolemolestalaventanadelostiposdeconexiones(aveces
ocultaeldispositivoquequeremosconectar),desplcelacomocualquierotraventana.
Habr observado que al marcar sobre los switches se le facilitaba el listado de los
puertoslibresyqueenlosPCsslohayunpuertofastethernetdisponible.Elpuerto
RS232seempleaparalaconexindeconsolaalrouter.
Ya hemos terminado la topologa de la red. Quizs en este momento usted querra
guardareltrabajorealizadoycontinuarenunasesinposterior.
5.-GUARDARYCARGARARCHlVOS.
ParaguardarlostrabajosqueelaboremosconelPacketTracervayaalaopcinSave
As...delmenFile:

Ahoraescojaunnombreparasuarchivo.Pordefecto,losarchivosdelPacketTracer
quedanguardadosen...\PacketTracer3.2\SAVES.
Unavezguardadosutrabajo,cierreelprograma.PuedeiraExitenelmendeFileo
cerrar la ventana del Packet Tracer. Al salir, el programa siempre le preguntar si
quiereguardarsutrabajo,independientementedequeyalohayahecho.Ennuestro
casopuedecontestarquesono,puesyaestarchivado.
Ahora que est cerrado el programa, procederemos a abrirlo de nuevo. En la
instalacindebicrearseuniconodeaccesoenelescritorio.Localceloyhagadoble
clicksobrel.

Observelaextensindelosarchivosdelsimulador.
Marqueabriryregresaremosalaredquetenamosdiseada.
6.-MODlFlCAClONESENLATOPOLOGlA.
Enalgunasocasionespodraplantearselanecesidaddemodificarunarchivo:sustituir
conexiones, cambiar dispositivos o aadir nuevos elementos. Esto es tan sencillo
comohacerclickeneliconoRemovedelabarradeherramientasyclikearsobreel
elemento que queremos eliminar. Si borramos un dispositivo de red tambin
eliminaremossusconexiones.

Parapracticarunpoco,modifiquemoslaconexinserialdelosroutersdemodoque
ahorael Router1 seael DCE.El iconodel borradorsecolocasobre el elemento a
eliminar:
Alcompletarlanuevaconexin,fjesequeelrelojindicandoeldispositivoresponsable
delasincronizacincambiadeubicacin.
Hemosmodificadounaconexin,vamosahoraacambiarunodelosdispositivosdela
topologa. Sustituiremos un PC conectado al Switch 1 por un servidor. Adems
aadiremosalswitch0unaimpresora.

Observequeelservidorslotieneunaconexindereddisponible:
Esfcilqueenocasioneslaventanadelasconexionesocultealgndispositivoque
queremos conectar, como nos ocurri en la imagen inferior al querer incorporar la
impresoraalareddel Switch0.Enestecaso,pinchesobrelabarradelttulodela
ventanaemergenteydesplceladondenolemoleste.

Estedeberaserelresultadofinal:
Si quiere cambiar algn elemento de posicin, simplemente pinche sobre l con el
puntero y arrstrelo hasta su posicin final. Tambin puede mover un grupo de
dispositivos.Paraellopincheenelespacioenblancoenunlugarprximoalconjunto
y,manteniendo pulsado el ratn,desplcelo.Se ir conformandoun rectnguloque
englobelosdispositivosqueelijamos.Observequeelgrupoelegidocambiadecolor.
Pruebe a mover toda la rama derecha de la red para alejarla del otro extremo y a
recolocarlosdispositivosquecuelgandelswitch:

Hasta aqu hemos aprendido a crear una topologa, guardarla, recuperarla y
modificarla.Elsiguientepasoesdotaralatopologadeundireccionamientodered.
Afrontaremosesteobjetivoennuestraprximaseccin.
7.-DlRECClONAMlENTO.
PorlateoradelCCNAustedyasabecmodireccionarlosdispositivosdered.Aqu
slo indicaremos cmo escribir la direcciones lP en los equipos del Packet Tracer.
Usaremoslassiguientesdireccionesdered:
Paralaconexinserial:192.168.1.0/24
ParalafastethernetdelRouter0:10.0.0.0/8
ParalafastethernetdelRouter1:172.16.0.0/16
Vamosaconfigurarprimerolosrouters.Haciendodobleclicksobreeliconodelrouter
emerge la ventana de consola. Como ya sabr probablemente, este interfaz de
comandosnospermiteprogramarelroutermediantelasinstruccionesadecuadas.
Empezaremos primero con el Router 0. En la figura siguiente se muestran los
comandosaemplear.
Hecho esto, puede cerrar la ventana de consola tranquilamente, pues los cambios
quedanguardados.ConfigureelRouter1demodosimilar.

Recuerdequeenestecasodebeconfigurarlasealderelojenlainterfaceserial,pues
steeselequipoDCE.Nuestrasiguientetareaesconfigurarloshost.Paraello,haga
tambindobleclicksobreellos.Enestecasolasventanasemergentesmuestranlas
casillasdondecompletarlainformacin.

Noolvideescribirladireccindelgatewayenlapartesuperior.Despusdeescribirla
direccinderedenlacasillainferior,pulselatecladeltabuladorylamscaradered
por defecto se completar automticamente. Si la configuracin de red es correcta,
queda guardada automaticamente, de modo que podr cerrar la ventana en cuanto
completelascasillas.
Lemostraremosunsegundoejemplodedireccionamientodehost.Completeelresto
delosequipos.NosecolocarnlPsenlosswitches.
Para cerciorarse de que ha colocado direcciones lP en todos los equipos que lo

necesitan, observe que al colocar el puntero sobre un dispositivo aparece su
informacindeconfiguracindered:
Es aconsejable documentar el trabajo que vayamos realizando. El Packet Tracer
dispone de una opcin para incluir descripciones de las redes que configuremos.

Mrqueloyseabrirunaventanadetextoparaqueredactesudescripcindelared.
Hacompletadotodoslospasosparatenerunareddireccionadayademstieneuna
descripcindesured.Ahorapuedeguardarsutrabajo.

Unasugerenciaesguardarlosarchivosconunaconfiguracindereddeterminadacon
un nombre diferente al del archivo que guarda la topologa. De este modo, puede
utilizarunamismatopologaparadistintasconfiguraciones.Elcasoquenosocupaes
un ejemplo sencillo y pudiera no merecer la pena, pero en topologas con veinte
dispositivosomselahorrodetiempopuederesultarsignificativo.
8.-ELMODODETlEMPOREAL.
EnelPacketTracerestdisponibleelprotocolodeenrutamientoRlP,tantolaversin
1comolaversin2.Ademspodemosconfigurarenrutamientoesttico.Alolargodel
CCNA2ustedaprendertodosestosconceptos.Aqumostraremosbrevementecmo
configurarelenrutamientoycmoverficarloconlaintencindeilustrarelusodelos
otrosdosmodosdetrabajoqueannohemosvisto:elmododeSimulacinyelmodo
deTiemporeal
Paracomenzarcarguesuarchivoanterior"miprimerareddireccionadaymarquela
pestaadeRealtime.
Vamosaprobarlaconectividaddelared.Verifiquemosprimerolaconectividadentre
el PC0yel Router0.Paraello,pulseprimeroelbotnpingenlaesquinasuperior
izquierda inmediatamente encima del rea de trabajo. Le aparecer un icono que
simbolizaelcomadopinghagaclickenunodelosdispositivosydespusenelotro.El
procesosemuestraenlasfigurassiguientes.

Si el ping tiene xito (successful) le aparecer el mensaje correspondiente en el
recuadrosuperior.
PruebetambinlaconectividadentrePC0yPC1entrePC2yServer1yentreRouter
1 y Server 1. En todos estos caso debera funcionar correctamente. Pero no suele
suceder que los programas informticos sean perfectos... Si prueba la conectividad
entrelosdosrouterstalvezobtengaelsiguienteresultado:

Sin embargo, las interfaces estn directamente conectadas (no hace falta
enrutamiento),lasealderelojestadecuadamenteconfiguradaylasdireccioneslP
estnenlamismared.Elpingdeberafuncionar.Nostememosquelaaplicacintiene
algnerrorenestautilidad.Afortunadamente,hayunmododesoslayarla.Hagadoble
click sobre el Router 0paraque surga la ventana de consola. Recuerde que ha de
estarenelmodoRealtimeyquelasopcionesSimpleModeyConsoleModedelmen
Optionsnohandeestarseleccionadas.Unavezabiertalaventanadeconsolapruebe
arealizarelpingdesdelainterfazdecomandos.

Observequeahorassemuestraqueelpinghasidoexitoso(tantoenlaconsolacomo
en el recuadro superior). Le recomendamos que verifique la conectividad de la red
desdelasventanasdeconsola.
Desde la misma ventana de consola del Router 0 pruebe un ping al Server 1. En
nuestrocasolalPdedestinoes172.16.0.3.
Elpingfalla.Ustedprobablementesepaporquahorasesnaturalquenofuncioneel
ping.Siescribeshow ip route,veremosquenoaparecelareddedestinoenlatablade
enrutamiento.Paraquelaredtengaconectividadcompletadeberemoshabilitarrutas
estticasounprotocolodeenrutamiento.

Para configurar el enrutamiento debemos trabajar en el modo de topologa. Ciertos
comandosfuncionanenunosmodosynoenotros.Nosepreocupemuchoalrespecto
pueselPacketTracerseloharsaber.
HabiliteelprotocoloRlPenambosrouterssegnloquehaaprendidoensuslecciones
delCCNA2yluegocompruebelaconectividaddesured.Lemostramosenlasfiguras
siguientesesteproceso.
DeformaanlogaprocedemosenelRouter1.
PasemosdenuevoalmodoRealtimeyverifiquemosqueunpingdesdeelPC0llega
hastaelServer1.Estodemostrarquelosroutersestnencaminandocorrectamente
lospaqueteslP.

Una vez concluidoel enrutamiento de la redy verificada laconectividad, guarde su
fichero.Unasugerenciaesarchivarlasredesconelenrutamientoconfiguradoconun
nombre diferente al de la red con el direccionamiento. Sobre una red con un
direccionamiento dado podemos habilitar RlP v1, RlP v2, enrutamiento esttico o
diversas combinaciones con las posibilidades anteriores. Mantener, por tanto, el
archivoconlareddireccionadanospuedeahorrarmuchotrabajofuturo.Recuerdeque
antesdearchivaresrecomendabledocumentarnuestrotrabajo.

9.-ELMODODESlMULAClN
ElmododesimulacinnospermitecrearpaqueteslPyelegirsudireccindedestino.
Estemodotienelaventajadepoderobservareltrayectotomadoporcadapaquete,as
pues hay muchas aplicaciones interesantes. Entre ellas, observar como trabaja el
balanceodecarga,laconvergenciadelaredoelfuncionamientodelasACLs.Abrael
archivoconsuredenrutadaypinchesobrelapestaaSimulation.

Para trabajar en este modo hay que crear un escenario. Por defecto el nuevo
escenariotieneelnombreScenario0,puedecambiarlosilodesea.
Adems, para una topologa dada puede crear varios escenarios. Comprubelo
marcandolafechasituadaalladodelnombredelescenario.
Por defecto siempre le aparecar el escenario RlP lnit. Este escenario no es
modificable y muestra el proceso de convergencia de la red. Debido a que RlP v1
envasutabladeenrutamientoporbroadcast,paralasredesdecincoomsrouters
con varias conexiones entre ellos este escenario puede contener mucha carga de
proceso.Enestoscasosserecomiendanosimularesteescenario.

Unavezpuestonombreanuestroescenario,crearemosunpaquete.Paraellomarque
eliconodelsobreconunsigno+,lomostramosenlafigurademsabajo.
Cuandohayapinchadosobreesteicono,aparecernunaseriedenuevoselementos.
Bajo el icono del sobre, uncuadradode color simboliza el nuevopaquete. El signo
menosasuizquierdasirveparaborrarelpaquete.Desupunterocolgarunsobre,ha
de pinchar sobre el dispositivo origen. El recuadro resaltado en la figura siguiente
muestraeldiagramadetiempos.CadamarcatemporalesunsaltodelpaquetelP.

Cuando haga click sobre el dispositivo origen, emerger una ventana para definir
algunosparmetrosdelpaquete.Ennuestrocaso,hemosseleccionadocomoorigenel
PC 0 y como destino la lP 172.16.0.2, que corresponde al PC 2. Si no aparece la
ventanadecreacindelpaquete,compruebequeestdesactivadoelSimpleModedel
menOptions.
lndaguelosdiferentescamposdelaventanaparaconocertodaslasposibilidades.La
teoraqueestaprendiendoenelCCNAlepermitirsacartodoelprovechoaestas
opciones.

Paraobservarelcaminodelpaquete,pulseeliconodeplay.Lohemosrecuadradoen
rojoenlasiguientefigura.
Puedeaadirlospaquetesquedesee,peroslounoporintervalotemporalencada
dispositivo.Pruebeaaadirunpaquetedesdeelcomienzodelasimulacinrealizando
eltrayectoinversoypincheenplay.

Alfinaldelasimulacin,deberobtenerelresultadomostrado.Fjeseeneliconoque
representa en los destinos la llegada correcta de los paquetes. Observe tambin la
evolucindeldiagramatemporalylamarcadetiemposobreeliconodeplay.Refleja
unvalordeseisporquehemoscomenzadolacuentaenuno.
Cuandolospaquetessondescartadossemuestraconuniconoenformadex.Para
probarlo.CreeunpaquetedelPC1alServer1conunTTLdevalor1.
Pruebesunuevasimulacin.

Paraaadirotrospaqueteseninstantesposterioresalinicialdebeiniciarlasimulacin
y pararla en el momento deseado. La tecla play funciona tambin como pausa. A
continuacin marque el icono de creacin de paquetes y proceda segn los pasos
anteriores.
Ennuestrocasohemosaadidounpaqueteenelinstante3.Cuandotengamsde
tres paquetes creados en una simulacin, podr acceder a ellos con las flechas
situadasaladerechadeldiagramatemporal.
Por ltimo, si desea guardar una descripcin de su simulacin, pinche en la i a la
izquierdadelnombredelescenarioyseabrirunaventanadetexto.

Los escenarios creados en el modo de trabajo de simulacin quedan asociados al
archivoexistenteenelmododetopologa,conlocualnoesnecesarioquelosguarde
endiferentesficheros.
10.-LAAYUDADELPACKETTRACER
Confiamosenqueestaguainiciallesirvadeorientacinparasusprimerospasoscon
el Packet Tracer. Para conocer ms detalles del simulador le recomendamos que
consultelaayudaqueofreceelprograma.
DentrodelaopcinHelpdelabarrademenpodraccederalostutorialesyalagua
de contenidos. Es aconsejable que eche un vistazo a la seccin Command Line
lnterfaces,puesenellaseenumeranlascomandosdisponiblesenelPacketTracer
tantoparalosrouterscomoparalosswitches.
