Each Pipe can represent any portion of the overall piping network, while each Branch represents a single section of a Pipe which runs between two, and only two, points (called the Branch Head and the Branch Tail). 2005 Chagalesh Consulting Engineers Jan 30, 2005 Checking for Design Data Inconsistencies and Clash Check that components which are to be connected together are aligned on a common axis: Checks that components which are to be connected together are aligned in the same direction: Checks that components which are to be connected together have consistent bores: Checks that components which are to be connected together have compatible connection types: Checks that no length of tube is less than a prescribed minimum (which may depend on its bore) 2005 Chagalesh Consulting Engineers Jan 30, 2005 Draft Draft 2005 Chagalesh Consulting Engineers Jan 30, 2005 Isodraft 2005 Chagalesh Consulting Engineers Jan 30, 2005 2005 Chagalesh Consulting Engineers Jan 30, 2005 2005 Chagalesh Consulting Engineers Jan 30, 2005 2005 Chagalesh Consulting Engineers Jan 30, 2005 2005 Chagalesh Consulting Engineers Jan 30, 2005 Administration 2005 Chagalesh Consulting Engineers Jan 30, 2005 2005 Chagalesh Consulting Engineers Jan 30, 2005 FLOW CHART FOR CONCRETE MODEL IN PDMS Civil concrete Model is prepared based on : i) Frozen arrangement drawings issued for engineering. ii) Preliminary Foundation / Beam / Column / Pile / Pile caps whose preliminary maximum size / type & Locations are decided in consultation with Civil. Prepare & Issue Civil arrangement drawing to Civil for design of building / foundation Receipt of Civil arrangement Drawings marked with i) Member sizes. ii) Additional members required, if any, due to design of the building. iii) Location of members as per the design of the building. Update PDMS model as per above mark up drawing & clash check of the members done. Corrections required due to clashes are done either in locating the member to avoid clash or shifting of clashing item to clear the concrete member. Issue of Civil arrangement drawing from PDMS & RCC details drawings from Auto cad for construction. NOTES:- 1) Sometimes if the Client is not happy with the PDMS arrangement drawings , the same are drawn in Autocad. 2005 Chagalesh Consulting Engineers Jan 30, 2005 FLOWCHART FOR CIVIL STRUCTURAL MODEL IN PDMS Structural Members are Created in PDMS Model based on i) Frozen Arrangement drawings issued for Engineering. ii) Location & Preliminary maximum member sizes decided in consultation with Civil Design Department. Structural arrangement Drawings are Defined in PDMS & issued to Civil for Building Design. Receipt of Structural arrangement Drawings marked with i) Member sizes. ii) Additional members required, if any, due to design of the building. iii) Location of members as per the design of the building. Update PDMS model as per above mark up drawing & clash check of the members done. Corrections required due to clashes are done eitherin locating the member to avoid clash or shifting of clashing item to clear the structural member. Structural arrangement drawing (generated in PDMS) issued for Construction along with the detail drawing prepared in Autocad (e.g.Moment connection or shear connection detail) . Normally the cutouts of say 500 mm size or higher are released at this stage. Smaller cutouts required in grating due to pipe passing through floor or support plate resting on steel member are released when all thelines are released for construction. NOTES:- 1) Sometimes if the Client is not happy with the PDMS arrangement drawings , the same are drawn in Autocad. 2) In some cases the structural members are released progressively based on the engineering status. e.g a) After arrangement plans are frozen the columns & main beams are released for fabrication. b) After equipment drawings are approved & big bore pipes are finalised the secondary beams for equipment support & pipe supports are released for fabrication. c) The tertiary members (for grating support) & bracings are released for fabrication, when the piping is finalised for all isometrics. 2005 Chagalesh Consulting Engineers Jan 30, 2005 FLOWCHART FOR EQUIPMENT MODEL IN PDMS Equipment modeling in PDMS. Basis are i) Dimensions - Equipment Data Sheet. ii) Location - Licensors Arrangement Plan. Review of PDMS model for freezing the arrangement drawing & Issue of the same for Detail Engineering. (Necessity of Operating Platform required if any, is checked) Locating the nozzles as per Piping Study. Basis are i) Elevation - as per equipment data sheet. ii) Orientation - as per Piping Study. Generate Nozzle Orientation sheet & Check the same for i) Dimensions of Equipment. ii) Nozzle Size, Rating, Facing. iii) Location of Equipment . Update the Equipment as per the Order Specification of the Equipment. Issue - - the Nozzle Orientation sheet for Fabrication. - Pipe Support clip / Platform clips / Ladder Clips for Fabrication. Update the Equipment as per the approved Vendor Drawing. 2005 Chagalesh Consulting Engineers Jan 30, 2005 FLOW CHART FOR PIPING MODEL IN PDMS Issue XYZ BOM based on PIDS & Plot Plans. Prepare PIPING Study. Model the pipelines in PDMS as per study, including pipe support, check clash, consistency & out of spec. items & take corrective action if required. Review of Pipe line by Process,Instrument, Piping Dept. Do Stress Analysis of Pipelines. Stress Analysis required Update PDMS model based on Stress Analysis, Review comments &Model Special Support. Review of Pipeline Update PDMS Model based on review comments. Update Pipelines as per vendor information. Instrument dimensions final P&IDs etc. Transfer Line list data by using macro for each line in PDMS. Issue of ISOS for Construction along with MTO for order updating. Do final Checking of Isometrics w.r.t. latest P&IDs. Issue of Special Supports Sketches for Construction. F o r

p&id Symbolic representation of the process
P & ID is designers road map which shows all the equipment, pumps, valves, instrumentation and other piping items in sequence for proper system function.
Both the process and the instrumentation & control engineer provide design information.
Frozen P& ID is the basis for further development of project
