In Section I of the exam paper, you will be given about 4 texts which you have never seen before.

They will be of different text types, buttypically there is always 1 visual text and 1 poem. How do I prepare for the unseen elonging texts! "irstly, revise your language and visual techni#ues. Synthesis 2the final #uestion is 34(3%S a synthesis of the unseen texts5-$ompare and contrast how the composers of T() texts in this Section0 The ,ey is analysing the #uestion and doing all the #uestions within 46 minutes or less. The more your practise, the faster you will be. (hat is the elonging creative! Section II of the exam paper re#uires you to write a 7creative piece8 about belonging. They may *e#uire you to use a specific text type 9 eg. letter, memoir, diary entries, feature article, interview etc *e#uire you to use a particular #uote 9 the concepts in the #uote, or as the opening:ending of your piece *e#uire you to use a particular image 9 the concepts in it, or as the setting, character, ob;ect in your piece *e#uire you to explore a particular idea How do I prepare for the elonging creative! The syllabus 2go to page 165 provides you with suggestions for belonging ideas 9 identity, relationships, acceptance and understanding. @ersonally, I bring everything bac, to conformity and identity. $hec, out the past HS$ and practise 3)S essay #uestions 9 to get a sense of what you may be re#uired to response to or write about.

%ou may also include minor references to context, which might earn you brownie points or at least show your depth of ,nowledge. +o we need related texts for the 3)S essay! %es. %ou should prepare / related texts 9 and be able to write essays with either )TH or only )<'. Interestingly, both the/66A and /616 HS$ #uestions have specified 7)<' related text8 rather than 7at least )<' related text8, which threw some students, because they had prepared to write for /. %ou should choose text types which are different to your core.
