It shouldn't throw up roadblocks to your success. New York is about exploring the limits of what you can be. It shouldn't be a place where people are ignored by some or taken for granted by others. Im running for Mayor because for too long, politics as usual has blocked progress on pressing challenges we all face in this great city. Special interests and tired ideas have locked too many of our citizens in generational dependency on welfare programs, failing schools and costly government bureaucracy. New Yorkers are smart. They want a more affordable New York. They want action and results. Theyre dissatisfied by the old politics that has caused 70% of our people to disengage from the process. It's all of these pressing issues and more that make the election of the next Mayor of New York City so important. The stakes are high and the effects this election will have on our citys future are real. We need real, independent, common sense leadership to ensure this city our city remains the city of big dreams. This November, the 2013 New York mayoral election offers a rare moment in history for the city to achieve a just and equitable community. For too long, the Big Apple has been subjected to divisive and reactionary policies forged and directed by a cabal of arrogant elitists. But New York is not just for the elite. Together we can lead this city on a road to recovery that represents all 100% of New Yorks residents. Alas, the cast of characters seeking the reins of city power is a group of political careerists who have nothing new to offer. Each proposes a rehashing of the same failed policies as past servants of the 1%. This is why I entered the 2013 race. I urge you to do some research on my record. You will find that I am by far the most progressive candidate seeking the job as mayor or any other office in the city or state of New York. It is time for New York City to realize its full potential as a progressive community. While I currently seek the Democratic nomination for New York City mayor, I am well aware that this party has changed little since the era of Boss Tweed and Tammany Hall. Hence: I will also be on the ballot in November with the Tax Wall Street Party Do research on my past..I am the write person for the job at this time Thank you .

Nearly 400,000 millionaires call New York home, while nearly half of our neighbors live at or near the poverty line. Our middle class isnt just shrinking; its in danger of vanishing altogether. Addressing the crisis of income inequality isnt a small task. But if we are to thrive as a city, it must be at the very center of our vision for the next four years. During my time in public office, I've taken on unscrupulous landlords; protected children who were victims of neglect and abuse; battled the corrupting influence of corporate money in politics; fought to repair broken policing policies; and championed working family issues like paid sick leave and living wage laws. As mayor, I will spend every waking moment fighting to bring opportunity to every New Yorker with a plan to create jobs in all five boroughs; a dramatic expansion of affordable housing and accessible health care; increasing taxes on the wealthy to fund early childhood and after-school programs; and building police-community relations that keep everyone safer. Thats not simply a plan for tackling the inequality crisis. Its my solemn commitment to every resident of the city we all love so much. New Yorkers have a choice in front of us. I ask you to help me build one New York, where we all rise together. - Bill de Blasio

I visited Egypt in July to give solidarity to workers there who overthrew the capitalist Islamist government through mass mobilizations. Community Involvement: I help build solidarity with workers who are in struggle against the capitalist, either those on strike or lock-out. This includes the transit workers, Verizon workers, the Con Ed workers and others. I have been an actibe union member for decades. Education: Cubberley High School. University of California Campaign Statement: The Socialist Workers Party candidates are setting an example for workers of the need to break from the Democratic, Republican, and other capitalist parties, and set a course for independent working class political action. Workers face the consequences of the deepening worldwide economic crisis of the capitalist system, a grinding assault on our working conditions, standard of living, and poliltical rights. To cut across the competition and divisions fostered by capitalism, and build the working class unity and political independence necessary to fight back against the propertied rulers, the Socialist Workers Party calls for: A massive government-funded public works program to provide millions of jobs building affordable housing, hospitals, child care centers and other things workers need - and to increase the unity and solidarity of the working class. A big increase in the minimum wage. The capitalist set wages from the bottom up. A low minimum wage drags down all workers' pay. For the labor movement to campaign for this demand alongside efforts to organize all workers - with or without "proper" papers - would strengthen the working class and strike a blow against the bosses super-exploitation of immigrant labor. Stop all deportations! Free the Cuban Five! Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, and Rene Gonzalez are Cuban revolutionaries framed up in Florida in 1998 for defending Cuba from paramilitary attacks. For last seven years annually elected faculty adviser to the Borough of Manhattan Community College Student Government Association. Community Involvement: embracing the insurgencies of the city, the majority of the population that has been left out of the Wall Street/Tourist Industry emphasis of the two major parties Education: PhD in New York City political parties from the University of Pennsylvania History Department Campaign Statement: The 2008 economic collapse & Super Storm Sandy intensified a decline in the quality of jobs, housing, health care, & education. A sustainable environment can reverse this. To this end, as mayor I would phase out fossil fuels responsible for asthma and other respiratory diseases; & phase in solar, wind & wave energy. Currently, a record 53,000 children live on the streets and in shelters a 500% increase over 2008. Going to school, many students are stopped and frisked. I would halt this unconstitutional practice & decriminalize marijuana possession. In LA & New Orleans, violent crime is down further in % terms without this police abuse. I would cap classroom size at 20 like the school where Bloomberg sent his children, and fund preschool programs for every child; & restore gym, art, & music classes-- & offer ecology classes; and restore free tuition to CUNY as it was from 1847 to 1975. To encourage respect for nature, every public school would adopt a community garden or maintain a greenhouse. Closing public schools and public hospitals is wrong. Financing would come from the top 1% who take 45% of all city income, another historic high. Reintroduction of the stock transfer tax in effect from 1905 to 1980 would yield $16 billion a year for income-based housing. As a NYC native & Columbia College graduate, our city is my living room, my laboratory, my life. I would never sacrifice the general welfare to Wall Street as the 2 major parties do in the quest for campaign funds. Facebook: http://www.facebook.com\votegronowicz Twitter: http://@electgronowicz

Government cant create jobs, but it is responsible for creating an environment for job growth. Our government must operate more efficiently while reducing taxes and the burdensome regulations and fines that are strangling small businesses. We must focus on fostering emerging industries to create good-paying jobs in all five boroughs. I want to create a city that's affordable, while continuing to improve our quality of life. We must also reform government. We need ethics reform to get rid of corrupt politicians and educational reform to improve our schools. It's critical we provide our children with a quality education that allows them to compete in the 21st Century. The next mayor needs to have the experience and vision to lead New York City on Day One. Our city is a $70 billion enterprise with more than 300,000 employees. I am the only candidate with vast experience leading complex organizations in both the private and public sectors. I have been fortunate to serve the people of this city through some of our best times of growth and transformation, but also through some of our biggest challenges. I believe our best days are ahead, and as mayor, I will use my common sense, vision and experience to lead New York City forward. I believe in policies that reduce friction for individuals and businesses and allow for progress. As mayor, I will: Lower housing costs: We need more housing supply to meet demand. I will create a new zoning resolution that allows for construction of the housing this city desperately needs especially near the subway. Lower taxes: I will cut NYCs income tax to 1%, saving median families $1,500 per year. I will simplify property taxes to one rate across all buildings and make sure the wealthy pay their fair share. Bring new jobs to the city: Lower housing costs and simpler taxes will encourage companies to bring to New York the middle class jobs our people need. Our city is not perfect but our problems are solvable. I'm running for Mayor of NYC to have the winning candidate do what he/she will have the power to do, which is to offer a 1-year broad-based information technology program to high school seniors, to enable them upon graduation to get good/high-paying jobs anywhere in the US with small businesses, professional firms, non-profits and government agencies, AND to have the same FREE program (during off-hours) available to all adults residing in NYC. This will be enable the unemployed and underemployed to get good jobs. My 2nd message is for NYC voters. In NYS, every city and town has the right of its registered voters to enact laws by majority vote (yes or no). In my website voterlaws.com you will find 10 petitions (of 40 that I've prepared) available for signing and as forms for other needed laws. These "voterlaw" petitions include: 1. bill of rights for seniors; 2. for restaurants and food servicers; 3. for store owners; 4. for cab drivers (yellow, black and green); 5. free ferry service for The Rockaways, devastated by Hurricane Sandy; 6. Principal and interest reduction for underwater NYC residential mortgages; 7. Student loan reduction through eminent domain; 8. Limiting NYC fines to enforcement cost + 25%; 9. online (paperless) petitioning for voterlaws (ballot initiatives) through BOE; 10. lending to promote business-banks get NYC deposits thru lending policy.

Community Involvement: I have dedicated nearly a quarter of a century to working with the residents of NYC's various communities. I have created programs to meet the needs of those communities, most recently a mobile food pantry. Education: I have a Doctorate in Theological Studies from UTI University and an undergraduate degree from Boricua College. Party Endorsements: Bronx Conservative Party Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/ErickSalgadoNYC Twitter: http://twitter.com/ErickSalgadoNYC Campaign Statement: My decision to enter the mayoral race was humanitarian, not political. I made it after witnessing my fellow New Yorkers looking through garbage bins for food as I was working with my mobile food pantry volunteers distributing food on Coney Island in the days after Sandy hit. This was occurring at the very same time that the Mayor was planning to hold the New York City Marathon and most elected officials remained mum. When I realized this disconnect between City Hall and the people, I knew I had to do more, I had to get more involved, I had to run for mayor. I come to this race with nearly a quarter of a century of working with the residents of this citys numerous diverse communities and after creating and growing businesses that have employed many New Yorkers. I have seen firsthand the concerns families have just living their daily lives in this complex city. I also know the frustration companies experience in doing business in this city. Its true that when it comes to politics I am inexperienced, a rookie politician, but when it comes to meeting the needs of a community or handling the ups and downs of managing a successful business, I have over two decades of experience. It is this combination of experience that will enable me to be an effective mayor for all the residents of this city. Together we can keep New York City great.

Yet, knowing how to get things done is not the same as being an insider. I am committed to being a full time Legislator who will serve with dignity and honesty. In my first four years as Borough President, weve taken great strides to bring new business to the Bronx and to make it easier for our existing businesses to stay and grow. Weve helped create thousands of new jobs in every corner of the Bronx, while ensuring that those jobs are developed in a green, sustainable way. My office played a key role in making Fair Wages for New Yorkers the law in our City, ensuring that heavily-subsidized projects pay their employees a living wage. My record on the economy is clear, and during my next term, we will continue to strengthen our business climate. I will continue advocating for the East Bronx Metro-North expansion project, which has the potential to completely transform several of our largest communities by bringing new transportation options to our borough. As Borough President, Ive funded dozens of our communitys public schools, and we'll continue to use our capital dollars to give the children of the Bronx the best possible education. We will also continue our focus on environmentallyfriendly development. My office will only fund projects which include a strong green component. This has been one of the hallmarks of my administration. What were doing is working. I hope my last four years as your Borough President has earned your vote. Together, we can continue our important work for our borough, and build a New Bronx for everyone.Facebook:

Dynastic entitlement locks in favored politicians, despite their poor performance, and you and me out. Im running to reform the way in which politics has been manipulated for the benefit of a few connected politicians that put the party hierarchy first and you last. We cannot continue down this road of self-destructive politics. These self-destructive policies which hold us back and produces corrupted officials is bad for our survival. I will be the clearing for good leadership which will allow us to move forward. I will hold our other elected officials accountable and address the poor education and poor economics in this borough. Community Involvement: Focused on quality of life issues, including measures to eliminate bed bugs, rats, and graffiti, ban smoking in parks and at beaches, require landlords to make repairs to prevent repeat housing violations Education: Columbia University (BA), Harvard University (MPA) - Gale teaches Urban Policy at colleges across New York City, including Barnard, Baruch, CUNY, and Hunter. Party Endorsements: Assemblyman Dick Gottfried, Assemblyman Brian Kavanagh, Former Manhattan Borough Prez Ruth Messinger Campaign Statement: Dear Friends, Manhattan residents will be choosing a new Borough President this year, and I am asking for your support. I have served the people of New York for over 40 years: as a City Council member representing the Upper West Side for the past 12 years, as the Deputy Public Advocate for Intergovernmental Affairs, as the Director of Mayor Dinkins Federal Office, as Chief of Staff to City Council member and former Manhattan Borough President Ruth Messinger, and beyond. I know how this city operates. Ive spent the last two years speaking with community leaders, negotiating business interests, and navigating the back halls of New York politics to pass my groundbreaking bill instituting Paid Sick Leave. Finally, New York employees wont live in fear that an illness or the flu will cost them their jobs and their livelihood. Even when the bill was labeled DOA, I found innovative solutions to see it through to fruition. I introduced and passed innovative open-data legislation that deploys technology to make government more transparent and accessible to the public. The open data bill is the most comprehensive bill of its kind in the country. Manhattan is more than a borough; its a collection of neighborhoods with wildly different needs. Civic organizations can use the data to determine whats best for their neighborhoods at the micro level and plan accordingly. I hope to have your vote on September 10. Devoid of any executive or legislative responsibilities, the Borough Presidencies are largely symbolic positions. A Borough President can not enact or change laws. He or she cannot sign or veto legislation. The Borough President produces a recommended budget for the City each year, but has no power to ensure that any of the items within that budget are adopted. A similar situation exists with respect to legislation. A Borough President has no official function in the legislative process. He or she has a limited advisory role. A Borough President has no authority to guarantee that any of his or her legislative priorities are enacted into law. Writing legislation is, by law, the role of the city council, and I believe it should remain so. If the Borough President wants to act as a city council member's assistant, then I would recommend that his or her pay be cut to that of the average city council members assistant. This is the crux of the matter. I can not see how politicians can justify maintaining a $160,000 plus a year position with no real function at a time when our economic situation is so dire that police, firemen, and other essential city personnel are in danger of losing their jobs. Their Unions are due retroactive pay. This is the most important issue of 2014, and the extravagance of the Borough Presidencies sit uncomfortably next to the City's paucity of funds.

To relieve over crowding in Queens 9 remaining hospitals,I have called for the opening of primary and urgent care facilities throughout the borough. To attract and strengthen local business, we must work with partners in government to expand tax incentives for new or expanding businesses who hire locally. We must also smartly rebuild in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, so our communities are prepared for the next storm. We also need to make sure our streets are safe by reducing gangs and gun violence, giving kids good after-school options and reforming current stop-and-frisk policies to make them effective and fair. Education: New Dorp High School 1960, Associate in Applied Science, Staten Island Community College Borough: Staten Island Campaign Statement: If I'm elected your to be your Boro President one of the most important jobs for me to do is be an advocate for Staten Island. As an advocate for Staten Island I think that the biggest problem that we are facing is a maldistribution of wealth in the United States. The richest 1% of Americans own 35-40% of the wealth in the United States. A similar situation exists with income, we have a terrible maldistribution of income. I don't dislike this situation because I'm envious of the 1% of richest Americans. It is because this maldistribution of wealth is causing recessions and depressions in our economy which is causing much misery. We have a lot of poverty, hunger, homelessness lack of health care. We also have a corroding infrastructure which is causing bad roads, poor schools, crumbling bridges and the closing of hospitals. What we have to do and what was done in the 1940's, 1950's, 1960's and 1970's is to tax the richest 1% of Americans at 90% of their income. We also have to raise the Estate Tax after exemtiing the first 5 million Dollars among other taxes on the wealthy. We will then have enough money to eliminate poverty, hunger, homelessness, lack of healthcare and repair our infrastructure. We can also have a jobs program like the WPA of the 1930's, which can eliminate the 7.9% unemployment we have here on Staten Island. As your Boro President and advocate I will make sure that my office follows these commitments. I will also advocate to other office holders.

Education: Dartmouth College, B.A.; University of Pennsylvania Law School, J.D, Editor-in-Chief of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review Campaign Statement: It has been an honor to represent the district where I have lived all my life. There are two parts to the job of a Council representative, as I see it: running a top flight constituent operation, and being an effective and thoughtful legislator. I hope you agree that I have established a strong record on both. For solving constituent problems from Stuyvesant Town, Waterside, Turtle Bay, the West 50s and the Upper East Side, my office prides itself on treating constituents like the valued clients that they are. My staff is top notch, and I am always accessible and present in the district to address issues first-hand. As for legislation, the Daily News has recognized me as one of the most active Council Members. And, I have authored important bills that really moved the needle for New Yorkers. From standing up for tenants and the environment, to protecting consumers from fraud and abuses, to protecting whistleblowers, I work hard to be a thoughtful and determined legislator. And beyond any particular issue, or any one bill, I want you to know that I believe strongly in the work of the City Council. That is why my attendance is near perfect, and why I gave up my career as a lawyer to do it full time. I am committed to doing it right, and with honor and integrity. We need to break the one-party rule on the City Council. Like market monopoly, political monopoly stifles innovation, causes prices to rise and services to decline. This is what we are seeing in City government. I am running for City Council to break the monopoly and innovate and change City government. The City must honor its obligations under the State Constitution and City Charter to protect property rights, expand housing options, and improve education through school choice. There must be properly conducted policing that communities trust and that keeps our families safe. During my opponent's two terms in office, the City Council has been complicit in raising taxes, fines, and fees. Spending has doubled - yet little of that spending has funded services to the people. The City has run serial budget deficits and outstanding debt is over 100 billion. Fiscal irresponsibility has diminished the people's purchasing power and our quality of life. The openness and vitality of our great City is threatened. My opponent has overturned the law and is running for a third term. He claims he wants to serve the District, except on the issues that are most important - finance, housing, and public safety - his record suggests otherwise. District 04 can't afford four more years of Dan Garodnick. Vote for Helene Jnane on November 5th. Facebook: http://Helene4NewYorkCityCouncil Twitter: http://HeleneJnane@HeleneJnane

Education: Georgetown University, BSFS University of Pennsylvania, MA The Wharton School, MBA Party Endorsements: Independence Party Republican Party Metropolitan Republican Club Knickerbocker Republican Club Campaign Statement: New York has seen a renaissance in the past 20 years, as crime has come down and New York Citys Upper East Side has blossomed as an attractive place to live, shop and relax. Over the past few years, however, countless friends and loved ones have lost their jobs and moved out of the city; 2nd Avenue has been thrown into chaos and countless stores have been forced out of business; and the whole Upper East Side has been torn apart by threatened pollution, dumptrucks, and health and safety concerns as we have inexplicably had a dump forced into our backyards. This is an extremely important election for our city, perhaps more important than last years presidential election. So many of these issues will tangibly impact our lives. As we see in the newspapers every day, our elected leaders have begun to act like their positions are a right rather than a privilege. We deserve so much better, and you can start the transformation by voting Garland for City Council. Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/ElectDavidGarland Twitter: http://@electgarland

My wife and I chose to stay and raise our children here because the Upper West Side is a closely knit village, where people of different backgrounds join together to build a better community and a better city. But for many of our neighbors, times are tough. Everyone from seniors on fixed incomes to young people starting their careers faces the challenge of finding and keeping affordable housing. Families with children face the additional burden of getting a top-notch education for their kids. For over 20 years, I have worked to protect and strengthen our community. I have organized neighborhood and tenant associations, sued landlords as a pro bono attorney to block the mass eviction of women from their homes, and forced banks to make emergency repairs for tenant safety. As a leader of Citizen Action of New York, I've been an organizer for health care reform, and a leader in the battle to reduce the effect of dirty money in politics. In the City Council, I'll continue my work as a reformer, to eliminate the "legal corruption" that threatens our government. I'm proud to be endorsed by our progressive Upper West Side leaders like Cong. Jerry Nadler, Ruth

Campaign Statement: I am the Green Party candidate for the NYC Council, District 6 that includes much of Manhattan's West Side. I was born on the West Side and have lived the major part of my life there. I have been working for years to protect the environment. I would introduce resolutions to shut down Indian Pt nuclear power plant and a permanent ban on hydro-fracking for natural gas in NYS, phase out coal, oil and gas and phase in solar, wind and wave energy. I would also fight for affordable housing for low and middle class residents, democratize public school governance by ending centralized mayoral control, end public subsidies to charter schools and real estate developers such as for inclusionary housing, protect all seniors in regulated housing so that they do not pay more than 1/3rd of their income in rent, help small business with some form of rent control, give independent parties a fair chance to participate in the political process such as to re-institute proportional representation in the City Council. I support an end to stop and frisk and the establishment of an independent civilian police review board. I would change the present public matching funds program to limit public funding for municipal elections to candidates who receive small contributions excluding PACS and corporations. I am running as a Green because I believe that the Democratic and the Republican Parties are beholden to the 1%. The Green Party does not accept money from corporations or real estate interests. As your councilwoman, I have created and preserved hundreds of affordable units and allocated millions of dollars in for upgrades to developments in our community. I have fought side by side with members of our community to ensure our students have the best facilities available and I've successfully worked to keep schools open, directing over five million dollars and securing science labs, playgrounds and technology upgrades to more than 40 schools. For years I have been active in our neighborhoods, working to solve problems and enrich our community. Thats the kind of elected official I would want for our district, and thats the kind of City Council Member I will be. As you know, the northwest Bronx is a group of strong, vibrant communities. In order to ensure that we maintain our fair share of city services and funds, we need a Council Member who can bring people together and build coalitions. Thats why Im pleased to have received the support and endorsements of every local elected official and labor organization that has endorsed in this race, Planned Parenthood NYC Action Fund, and the League of Conservation Voters. If elected, I promise to be your Council Member full-time-- my only job will be to work for you and our community. Ill fight for smaller class size, more Pre-K seats, safer streets, better parks, and funding for senior centers and programs. Through my participatory budgeting plan, you will have a direct voice on how budget funds are spent in our community. We can accomplish a lot of things together. This is a great city and we can make it even better. Thank you and I hope I will have your support in the September 10th primary.

He fought for boilers to be repaired so tenants could have heat on a cold night, and for leaky roofs to be sealed, eliminating water damage and mold in resident's apartments. Ritchie also fought landlords and NYCHA to fix broken front doors and intercoms, giving tenants

Three of the most pressing are; helping to mitigate the negative environmental impact the many waste transfer stations, the DEP sewage water treatment plant and the New York Organic Fertilizer Co. (NYOFCO) sewage treatment facility have on the community; the need for affordable housing for senior citizens and working families; providing opportunities to make our public housing developments safer for residents and the surrounding communities by designating capital funding for the installation of security cameras; and designating capital funding to upgrade our community parks. Other issues include the need to make available more green open spaces, parks and recreational facilities; job training and readiness programs for the unemployed and underemployed; improving technology in our schools; and working on police/community relations. I have lived and worked in the community I represent for 46 years and have a deep commitment to providing the best level of service to my neighbors. I have great ability to work in collaboration with all stakeholders affected by issues or concerns and have a collaborative approach to problem solving and negotiations.

Campaign Statement: Hello. My name is William Russell Moore. It is my distinct pleasure to serve you as your next Councilman for District 18 in Bronx County. I am impressed and motivated by the voting publics sentiment in my district that, It's time we put aside self-serving politics and place the concerns of the Community first. My highest priorities are rebuilding our local economy, supporting our working families, providing better public safety within the community, creating new educational opportunities for grades k 12 and post secondary education, protecting and enhancing the environment, and building more youth and senior centers. My various experiences in all levels of local government have afforded the opportunity to hit the ground running and get results. I appreciate your support to allow me to represent you all at City Hall in the New York City Council. I support the Federal Consent Decree to increase the hiring and eventual promotion of qualified Minorities and Women throughout the New York City Fire Department, without any reprisal action. I have travelled District 18 by foot and knocked on doors, sometimes by myself in many NYC Housing Authority (NYCHA) projects at night and residents have told me to my face that they feel abandoned and forgotten by the incumbent. I will use my powers as your next councilman to keep my word - you'll know me - and I will provide equal opportunities to women, men, seniors, youth and the disabled and veterans in our community. While running the Center for the Community Interest (CCI), he worked to uphold Megans Law and to get guns out of schools, porn shops out of residential neighborhoods, and the mentally ill off the sidewalks and into the treatment they desperately needed. The most important issue for Dennis is preserving and enhancing our special quality of life in Northeast Queens. This includes: Maintaining Educational Quality. He will work to maintain high standards and adequate funding in School Districts 25 and 26, and to defend the city's specialized high schools against an NAACP legal complaint that would water down merit selection. Restricting overdevelopment. He supports downzoning and will fight large commercial and residential projects that would drain our resources and change the character of our communities. Keeping the streets safe. He will work to continue the policies of Mayors Bloomberg and Giuliani and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly that have kept our neighborhoods safe and turned our city around.

When I first ran for city council it was a big problem, and it's only gotten worse. Candidates have begun to add affordable housing to their speeches, but hundreds of luxury units have been built instead. Many of them sit empty and rusting as owners seek buyers out of state and even out of the country since few Flushing residents can not afford them. There are many jobs in Flushing, but the pay is too low to provide a decent standard of living. Residents are being priced out of both residential housing and commercial real estate. Families that start new businesses find themselves with continuously rising rents. If we cannot get living wage jobs in Flushing; then we need to have laws that will help renters and homeowners stay afloat. We must end the notion that banks are too big to fail and we the people are too small to save. I know the needs of workers and the middle class; that's what I am. Most local candidates are business people who know only of the bottom line. When it comes to housing, education, jobs and health care, we cannot make choices based on what is most profitable for big business. We must provide what is most needed by the community, and I have faith that the people of the community will thrive given the right opportunities. I will do all I can to see that you will get an honest day's pay for an honest day's work after I am elected.

With the largest Shopping Mall in Queens that is going to be built in Willets West, Flushing and its vicinity will become a shopping and recreational center of Queens as well. The next 4 years is going to be a crucial time for Flushing. We need an honest and highly intelligent council person to lead us in this critical time. The incumbent councilmember has made too many mistakes. Look at the condition of the 149th bridge, 4 years and 4 million dollars later, it is still not repaired correctly. Traffic is out of control in the district, and will only get worse with the demolition of the Municipal Parking Lot I. Transportation in the area needs a complete re-working, something my opponent is uninterested in even looking at. Many believes that he doesn't even live in the district. No wonder he seems to be ignorant of so many of our community's pressing issues. I will be the right person for Flushing right now. With my vast work and life experiences, I am perfectly suited for the job of representing one of the most diverse districts with a wonderful heritage as the birth place of Religious Freedom and a promising future as the global center of commerce in the 21st century .

As a District Leader, Ive helped save the Grand Post Office, rallied with local leaders to get a speed bump on 21st Ave., and organized clothing and food drives. As a Councilmember, though, I want to do more. First, I want to ensure that Mount Sinai Hospital is expanded. No one should have to cross a bridge to get decent healthcare. Second, I want to make sure that our schools get the funding they need and our children get a top-rate education. Too many students have been stuck in temporary trailers, and I want to make sure that the DOE allocates the money in the capital budget that the Chancellor promised us. I also will continue fighting for great programs like PS 122s Gifted and Talented program, which the DOE tried to cut earlier this year. Finally, I will fight to clean our environment, and make sure that

Lynne decided to register outside the two-party system almost twenty years ago, disgusted by "machine politics" and dissatisfied with the status quo. In the years since, she has worked with people across the political spectrum and ran several successful campaigns for voting system reforms such as instant runoff voting (IRV) and proportional representation (PR). Lynne believes we must use our finite financial and natural resources wisely. She was taught these lessons by Depression-era parents who practiced conservation as an economic reality. The green economy means investing in energy-efficiency, clean energy and green manufacturing jobs. She understands the link between the environment and public health, the affect of pollution on rising rates of asthma, and the devastating impacts of childhood obesity and diabetes. Lynne first moved to Astoria nearly twenty years ago, drawn by its community feel, proximity to the East River and amazing restaurants. She has seen the neighborhood grow and change (and rents and property taxes skyrocket) while the political power structure remains stuck in the past. It is an issue that transcends politics and partisanship. Whether you are a Democrat, Republican, Conservative or Independent, we can all agree that the safety and security of all New Yorkers is the prerequisite for prosperity, economic growth, jobs and the healthy functioning of all institutions of a free society. The City Council voted the Community Safety Act better known as the Criminal Protection Act, into law in August 2013, turning back the clock on al l the gains made in public safety in the city in the last 20 years. New York City is the safest large city in America since the pro-active policing policy of stop, question, and frisk helped bring the annual murder rate from 2,200 a year to a little over 400 today. The dangerous consequences of the City Councils misguided vote, which blindfolds police officers and protects the
77

criminals, will usher in the return of soaring crime, murders and chaos to all neighborhoods of our city. The urgency and pervasiveness of this issue makes it a universal issue and it makes this a universal campaign. I am running for City Council to be the sole voice on the Council representing law enforcement, to reverse the Community Safety Act bills, now Local Law 71, and save New York City from rising crime rates.

A well-recognized champion and advocate for public transportation, I have spent a lifetime fighting for the families of Southeast Queens. As a labor and community activist I knows the power of building coalitions to deliver for the community. Most recently, my efforts restored bus service, including the Q27 and Q42 serving Southeast Queens, to make it easier for residents to reach work, school, medical appointments and other activities. Setting an example for other union locals, under my leadership, Local 1056 supports numerous community activities that bring residents together and provides them access to recreation, government services, health care and employment. I organized joint community-labor rallies including a Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King commemoration. After Superstorm Sandy struck, I organized members of my union to serve hot meals to displaced families and worked with local elected officials to bring holiday gifts to children who lost their homes. I conceived and negotiated the first ever provision supporting childcare for municipal workers anywhere in the U.S. I led my union's successful effort to

secure fair wages, improve working conditions and better benefits, helped to protect riders and transit workers from assaults and address inadequate snow removal on bus routes. As a single parent whose children attended NYC public schools, I want to improve education.

Address: 102 Etna Street Brooklyn, NY 11208 Campaign Statement: I grew up in the projects on Gates ave in Bed Stuy the oldest of five my mother worked at a Daycare Center on the Lower East Side of Manhattan making barely enough to get by but she understood the importance of education and worked tirelessly to ensure that we went to the best school her money could afford. For the past 15 years I have worked with the brightest and best legal minds dare I say in the world and the hardest working support staff I have ever encountered and yet every day I would leave my job and travel by train to a neighborhood that was struggling to become sustainable. My co-existence in these two worlds have given me the tools I need in order to be the change that will help to move my community forward. There are a myriad of issues that we need to face head on, too numerous to delve into at this time. The easy response is to concern ourselves only with the well being of those in our immediate circle, but the truth of the matter is that we all rise and fall with the tide and in the face of this widening gap between privilege and poverty we must lift as we rise. In this 21st Century world of increasing technology we cannot afford to carry on with business as usual. We must realize that our greatest assets are not the intangibles we pursue but living breathing beings. Together we can change history, together we can lift this City so that it is the cultural and economic beacon of the nation.

As your next city council representative, I will make education reform and student achievement a priority. Like me, you may have friends and relatives who are unemployed or under employed. Almost 2 million New York City residents are on food stamps. Thousands more have exhausted their disability and unemployment benefits or stopped looking for work. Our unemployment rate remains above the national average and we are increasingly becoming a city of haves and have

As Your City Council representative I will work to ensure that we adopt policies that support small business development and increase training and educational access for job opportunities in emerging industries such as bio-tech, and alternative energy. The recent judicial order mandating the resumption of services at Long Island College Hospital is a step in the right direction, but we have to establish policies which shift the focus away from a business model of medicine towards one that makes the needs of patients first. Campaign Statement: Vincent Gentile is proud to represent the neighborhoods of Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst and Bath Beach in New Yorks City Council. Schools are a top priority for Councilman Gentile. He has secured funding for such projects as new schoolyards, playgrounds, and libraries. To give our children the education they deserve, he directed funding to build PS 264 and IS30/The Green School. Councilman Gentile is directly responsible for the creation of over 5,000 new classroom seats for our kids. Councilman Gentile has led the fight against out-ofcontrol ticketing and fines by the city including his initiatives to eliminate Sunday parking meters and end unfair ticketing of homeowners and small businesses. The councilman also worked hard to ensure our neighborhoods are safe and clean. He is putting up security cameras to fight drugs and crime and Councilman Gentile is getting the city to work harder to clean our streets. The Councilman has taken the lead in public safety, fighting hard for our police officers and secured $12 million for new bulletproof vests. Since he was first elected, not one firehouse has closed in our district, even after many attempts by the city to the firehouse in Dyker Heights. When re-elected, Councilman Gentile will continue to fight for our neighborhoods. He proposed hiring more police officers and firefighters to help keep us safe. New Yorks next School Chancellor must be an educator.

For more years than I care to remember, I have been active in the neighborhoods in our Council District. I served as a Community Board Member, working on problems facing our communities. I was President of a Community School Board, and have long been involved in neighborhood organizations. Professionally I was a pubic school teacher and Assistant Principal. For the last seven years I have been a State Assembly Member. I have thoroughly enjoyed being an Assemblyman, working for reform in Albany. I am proud of the reputation I have earned for getting results. However, my priority has always been the well being of people and their neighborhoods. I know that I can solve more local problems, secure more funds for community improvements, and have a far greater impact on the quality of life in our neighborhoods as a Council Member. This is why I am candidate for the City Council. In the Council I will continue working to make our lives safer, improve education in our schools, and make our neighborhoods better places in which to live. As your Council Member, I will work to make sure the City budget continues to fund services for our seniors and our youth, and improvements in our local parks. And I will fight to make sure we have on-time, balanced City budgets that protect our essential services without raising our taxes. I look forward to serving you as your full-time, problem solving Council Member

As a civics teacher at New Utrecht High School, community activist and aide to Assemblyman Bill Colton, I have dedicated the last decade to building active and engaged multi ethnic coalitions to solve neighborhood problems. The first priority of our next Council Member must be helping tenants, homeowners and businesses impacted by Hurricane Sandy, especially in Coney Island, Sea Gate, Gravesend and Bensonhurst, I will fight to bring City, State and Federal recovery dollars to our community. Additionally, we must invest in rebuild our infrastructure so that were prepared for the next storm. We must also remain organized against the proposed waste transfer station in Gravesend Bay. As a teacher, Ive seen first -hand the impact this administrations education policies have had on our classrooms and children. Students are being taught how to answer questions on ever changing standardized tests, and the skill building required to be competitive in a global job market is being ignored. Our children need, and deserve better. I care about what works in our classroom, not education politics. Now more than ever, we need a Council Member who will speak up for south Brooklyn by bringing people together, organizing to protect public transportation and our quality of life. I hope to earn your vote on November 5th.
