VELS YEAR 10
Focus
At Level 6 of VELS the learning focus in this domain includes examining the relationship between
nutrition and stages of growth, and the eating practices with different stages in life. Students investigate
social and environmental factors influencing health, and examine the concept of adventure in outdoor
activities. They investigate components of fitness and behaviours for safe participation.

Dimensions
The Health & Physical Education domain has two dimensions:
• Movement and Physical Activity
• Health Knowledge and promotion

Outdoor Education
FOCUS
This program is designed to excite, involve and challenge participants in specific ways that foster a
range of skills such as; Effective Teamwork, Leadership, Self awareness, and Preservation of our
environment.
In the process comes a sense of belonging to the community and of social responsibility.

COURSE CONTENT

• Practical classes including sessions on; navigation, orienteering, cooking, setting up camp,
packing packs and fitness walks.
• Readings, set class work and homework, that prepares students to participate in activities with
safety with respect to others and the environment.
• Practice day of canoeing and rock climbing, to prepare for an expedition that encourages a spirit
of adventure and discovery. Challenging pursuits that may be undertaken are bike riding,
canoeing, bush walking, rock climbing and abseiling.

HEALTH & P.E YEAR 10
Fitness & Multi-sport
FOCUS
In this subject students will participate in a variety of fitness based activities. Students will investigate
training methods and study techniques and strategies used in fitness activities and multi-sport events.
Students will be encouraged to participate at their own level and all ranges of fitness and abilities will
be catered for. It is intended that participants in this class will participate in a short triathlon at the end
of the year, either individually or as a member of a team.
