Educational Administration Contemporary Leadership Describe the methods and procedures you, as a principal, might employ to assess the

e leadership effectiveness of your assistant principal(s). As an administrator, in assessing the leadership effectiveness of my assistant principal(s), !ould ta"e into account the follo!ing areas of leadership# school vision, student performance, $uality teachers and staff, a safe and organi%ed school, and effective and efficient operation of the school. n assessing the leadership effectiveness of the assistant principal(s) in the area of vision, !ould evaluate !hether or not he&she involves all sta"eholders in the development and implementation of the school's vision( !or"s !ith all sta"eholders to establish goals and ob)ectives in carrying out the school's vision( communicates the school's vision, purpose, and priorities to the school community( uses organi%ational s"ills, including problem*solving and decision*ma"ing s"ills, to implement and improve the school's vision( evaluates progress to!ard the attainment of the school's vision. n assessing the leadership effectiveness of the assistant principal(s) in the area of student performance, !ould evaluate !hether or not he&she ensures that the school meets the state standards( ensures that the instructional staff adheres to and utili%es the state standards( guides the development and e+ecution of programs and practices that ensure the mastery of s"ills by every student( identifies, respects, and celebrates successes( monitors and appraises the effectiveness of school programs and ma"es modifications to them as necessary( monitors student progress and determines !hether students have achieved standards( ensures that teachers use assessment results to facilitate educational $uality and support high student achievement. n assessing the leadership effectiveness of the assistant principal(s) in the area of $uality teachers and staff, !ould evaluate !hether or not he&she aligns the school's professional development plan !ith its school improvement plan and state priorities( provides for professional development necessary to support team!or", empo!erment, and high performance of all teachers and staff( develops teaching and learning practices based on current theories and research( pursues intellectual development for self and aids in the learning opportunities for all staff members( maintains a school climate that supports ris" ta"ing, improvement, and high e+pectations( supervises and evaluates personnel assigned to the school( and demonstrates reliability and supports high moral and professional standards for all. n assessing the leadership effectiveness of the assistant principal(s) in the area of safe and organi%ed schools, !ould evaluate !hether or not he&she helps develop the shared understandings and values !hich lead to a climate of honesty, e$uality, mutual respect, and support( monitors and maintains a safe, secure, and concerned school environment( deals !ith student misconduct in a punctual and efficient manner( manages and resolves conflict and crises effectively( manages the various social and intellectual needs of all sta"eholders to demonstrate respect for diversity( and models and supports self*discipline and accountability. n assessing the leadership effectiveness of the assistant principal(s) in the area of effective and efficient operation of the school, !ould evaluate !hether or not he&she monitors the alignment of curriculum and instruction and other components of the

educational system to achieve high performance for all students( listens actively and responds to issues, attains agreement, and facilitates a conclusion( develops effective interpersonal relationships in an open, honest, and plausible manner( uses available technology to enhance communication( ac$uires the resources needed in order to achieve school improvement goals( see"s and upholds internal and e+ternal partnerships in line !ith state and local goals( maintains informational and accountability systems to report results accurately and efficiently( allocates financial and personnel resources to ma+imi%e the educational success of all students( and ensures that school programs and procedures comply !ith local, state, and federal regulations.
