A researcher would like to evaluate the effect of a new mathematics program for second-grade students. For the past five years, a standardized test given at the end of second grade has produced an approximately normal distribution with a mean score of = 45 and standard deviation = 10. A sample of n = 25 students is placed in the new program and, at the end of the school year they obtained a mean test score of = 51. Based on these data can the researcher conclude that the new program has a significant effect on reading scores? Use = .05. a. Using symbols, state the hypotheses for this test. H0 : 45 Ha = 45 b. Locate the critical region for = .05.

0.025 Bounderies : z= + 1.96

c. Calculate the z statistic for this sample. X = 51 , n= 25 Standard eror = 10 = 10 = 2 25 5 Z= 51-45 = 6 = 3 2 2 d. What decision should the researcher make? Z lies in critical region. To reject null hypothesis hence, there is significant change /effect [25 marks] GOOD LUCK
