The focus is in enabling TL Fellows to develop a theoretical and reflective understanding of a professional concern, issue or problem and to equip them with the skills to use a range of research-based knowledge to enhance education leadership practice. identify, explore and develop theoretical and reflective understanding of a professional concern, issue or problem; undertake effective literature searches and reviews to support research and practice based study at level 7. develop understanding of the role and use of a range of research-based knowledge to inform education leadership practice; critically reflect upon their learning

What to expect in the module In contact time, tutors will lead and facilitate, learning sets; seminars; discussion of key issues and preparation for assessment. In non-contact time, TL Fellows will engage with directed and non-directed reading, collection and review of information, preparation for assessment and the on-going development of an online collaborative blog. Learning Outcomes TL Fellows will be able to: 1. demonstrate a critical understanding of an appropriate professional concern, issue or problem 2. undertake a systematic review of literature relating to a professional concern, issue or problem and critically analyse complex and/or contradictory areas revealed 3. apply learning to critically evaluate potential leadership strategies to address identified problem; 4. critically reflect upon their learning experience and identify areas of academic and leadership development; Assessment Task TL Fellows will submit a reflective written paper that provides evidence of the use of pertinent literature to inform the application and evaluation of professional learning. This will also include also evidence for personal and professional impact (Weighting 100%) (6000 words or equivalent). The deadline is: by Tuesday 22nd April 2014 4.30pm (Please note: All extension requests must be submitted to Irena Andrews, as Programme Leader). Assignments will be returned on Friday 16th May at 4.30pm. Assignment Guidance Your Impact Initiative will provide the focus for an assignment that will be in two parts: i) A 2000 word annotated bibliography focusing on four readings. This will be developed on your academic blog. The four works will be selected for their importance in understanding and analysing your chosen topic and for each you will be asked to identify and comment on: key themes evidence base validity personal and professional impact ii) A 4000 word reflective assignment in which you explain how your thinking has developed in relation to your impact initiative. This will be supported by critical engagement with relevant research, policy and theory. The process of developing your two-part assignment will be progressive through the use of your WordPress blog to meet the milestones identified in the programme. It is expected that as well as authoring your own content, that you will also curate content from other professional blogs, making links to articles (theory, research, blog reflections), videos, podcasts or any other form of media you think gives a useful insight into your impact initiative However you need to go beyond merely collating content and ensure that there is appropriate critical reflection and comment on the content you create and curate. 2.

Module Matters Throughout this module you will be working in groups and individually working both face-to-face and online as you will see from the programme. You will work collaboratively to maintain and develop a blog using WordPress.com. Tutors will also be using a group blog to introduce the sessions and provide support materials throughout the module at the following link http:// KV721.wordpress.com. The professional blogs you create are intended to help share experiences of effective practice and track the development of your ideas. However, it should be remembered at all times that these are professional blogs and as such TL Fellows are required to adhere to the following code of conduct when updating and posting. Code of Conduct TL Fellows should share general school-based experiences and ideas focusing on pedagogy and practice. The professional blog is not a space for personal grievances or concerns. Anonymised photographs of childrens work, displays, planning ideas and resources can be posted as long as relevant permissions have been obtained and any sources appropriately acknowledged. Photographs of children are not permitted. In any discussions or blog posts relating to professional practice, specific schools, children or colleagues should not be identified by name or inference. At all times TL Fellows should use professional language and the use of derogatory language or comments is unacceptable.

Induction Session 9th November 2013 1000-1600

Introduction to the module The focus of this session will be on explaining the process of the module and sharing guidance for the follow-up tasks, programme and assignment. To accompany this induction there will be an online tutorial that takes the TL Fellows through how to set up their online blog and the expectations with regard to how this will be used throughout the module. The TL Fellows will also be guided to any accompanying reading material in support of the module. Follow up from today: Begin systematic review of literature related to chosen topic. Using your WordPress blog set up at the Induction session complete Blog Post 1. This entry of 600-800 words is to outline the nature of your Impact Initiative and discus some of the underlying issues that need to be addressed in light of the discussion about working at M Level. Before the next KV721 session: When you have completed you own post read and comment on at least two other TL Fellows posts Complete Blog Post 2. Follow up from today: Continue systematic review of literature related to chosen topic Complete Blog Post 3. Choose 2 pertinent readings from your review of relevant literature to date and post a blog entry (1000 words) in which you critically reflect on the key themes, evidence, validity, and personal and professional impact for you. This entry will form part of your annotated bibliography of four key texts related to your chosen topic. This post will eventually form part of the assignment. To be completed by 21st February - end of half-term (see assessment guidance).

Before the next KV721 session: Read and provide formative feedback for members of CSG for Blog Post 3. This feedback will support the development of work before final submission Complete Blog Post 4. Following on from readings on critical reflection and comments on Blog Post 3 select two more readings from your review of relevant literature to date and post a blog entry (1000 words) in which you critically reflect on the key themes, evidence, validity, and personal and professional impact for you. In this entry include commentary on your own learning from engaging in this project and critically reflecting on the literature.
