THEORIES AND PRINCIPLES OF MANAGEMENT

MANAGEMENT: -is the process of reaching organizational goals by working with people and other resources. -knowing what you want people to do, and then getting them to do it the best way. FIVE MAJOR FUNCTIONS Planning Organizing Staffing Directing Controlling PLANNING: -Determining the organization s goals and deciding how best to achie!e them. Planning in!ol!es choosing tasks that must be performed and how and when they will be performed. -"his will in!ol!e de!eloping strategies, precise tactics, and allocating resources of people and money. 3 LEVELS OF PLANNING:

1.) Strategic Planning ( Board L ! " a#d To$ Ma#a% & #' ) -#n!ol!es !ision and mission. -Determines the direction of organization, allocates resources, assigns responsibilities, and determine time frame. (.) Tactical Planning ( Middle Management ) -$esponsible for translating strategic plan into shorter-term tactical plan-allocating a!ailable resources to specific purposes e%pressed in budgets. 3.) Operational Planning (Supervisory Level ) -first le!el super!isors on the firing line of daily operations accomplish operational planning. FACTORS AFFECTING PLANNING: Ob&ecti!es Controls Delegations

CONTROLLING: -is the continuing process of monitoring the progress being made by your workers. -Controlling in!ol!es gathering information and measuring performance.
