JANUARY 1970

We

--^re one year nearer Home- a joyful thought. My prayer for each of you is

that we

will all knowj^id better this year- His love and His power and that our

lives will be enriched, strengthened, settled. We all have experienced sadness

as well as joy and victory this year. How close God has been to us through it
all. My brother-in-lav Bob Bonnet, passed away October 2 after suffering 9 months with cancer of the lung.He "met the Master" and was eager to leave this, life for Eternal Life with Him. My sister had his memorial service as one of victory instead of death. I flew to California to be with her for a few days and
share this rich experience.
BIG

.
WAVES

December has been a month of sigr.ificant events. It star-ted.. wi.th the

Big Waves that, hit our r.orth shore on Oahu. The d-ividing lijie for the damage was the Kam Highway-about 50 feet from our buildings. It was true devaatatioi; of material things but the outstanding reaction.of the people of Mwaii was that of unselfish goodness- shaving, concern, brotherly love.
Tha area that bore the brunt of the stocm was across the road from our

.church and school. Houses were washed off their foundations and became piles of kindling, waves wafehed through houses and left only the side walls. Over |1
million woribh. of damae'e was done- 60 homes were hit. Our school and church

suffered no loss. Water did come into our front yard( that is whe" ve ran for

cur lives toward higher ground). We were an evaluation center- for several days.
The Red Cross set up hcadcjij, artcro hoi'G tcmpoi'tix";. Xy. -Wft had school for 1 hour on Thursday before we had to evcuate again.

Above it all, values have been changed. People count their material possessions^
as nothing compared to their lives. Truly, the Lord is mindful of His own.

FELIPA'S-WEDDING

Felipa Malobed, our 2nd grode teacher who cnme to work here last year, was ..
married to Ted Williams on December 2C in the Wahiawa church where she works on '

Sundays. Ted has-just been discharged from the Navy. They are living close by add she will, continue to teach here. It we:- a simple beautiful wedding- her dress came from the Philippines. I played the wedding music on the organ and because she v/as late in arriving lexhausted my repertoire - however the hymn book came
in handy Now that the rush a.id anxie~./ of the wedding are over- we loved it!

The school started its 17th

They love their school and find, 'he Bible chall<=^nging, yet many have not found the

David Abe graduated from our school in I'-65. We continued to pray for him
as he v;ent to hagh school. He. has been so I'aithful in .attending church here for the 13 years we have known him- always putting church first. This year before he,,
left for college in Washington, he told ue that he had been thinking all summer about becoming a Christiaxi. So it wafe an '.nswer to a long time prayer as we saw him being buried with Christ in the Pacif-c Ocean . We are praying that his parents will turn from their Buddhist bacf^.round to a LIVING AS L0VI3 LORD.
