Maintaining Configuration and Master Data for Packaging

Use
This section describes a set of common master data and common configuration settings for packaging that are valid for the Supplier Managed Inventory (SMI) and Release Processing scenarios. You can use these settings no matter whether you use alternative A1 or A2. (See also Configuration and Master Data in SAP R/3.)

The following example is used to illustrate the necessary configuration and master data for packaging.

On the Component tab enter a packaging material, for example, Wire Basket in the field Component of the row for item 10. 3. The dimensions shown on the dimension tab of a packaging instruction correspond with the master data of the chosen packaging material. The packaging weight is taken from the gross weight in the material master (Basic data 1). The allowed load weight corresponds with the allowed packing weight ( Sales: general/plant) of the material master. The load is calculated on the basis of the gross weight of the packed material multiplied by the target quantity of the material in the packaging instruction.
