Re: Welcome and School Supplies

Dear Parents:

My name is Mrs. Lynda Bonura. I will be your child’s math teacher this year.
In the area of mathematics, we have a lot to accomplish. Grades six and seven lay the
foundation for eighth. As you know, students need to pass year by year and they MUST pass the
eighth grade math LEAP test in order to go to High School. Students must remain focused if they
are to accomplish this goal.
I will be available each Tuesday for free tutoring after school. If a student is absent and
misses a test or quiz, they may make it up after school on the Wednesday after they return. Failure
to make-up the assessments will result in the student getting an “F” on the missed tests and
quizzes. All students start the school year with an “A-100” for homework. Each time an
assignment is missed the student will loose 5/five points. This is an easy “A” grade if the student
is responsible and does his or her homework each night. Every Friday or Monday, I will issue a
Grade Summary Notice to each student, who is present. This reflects the student’s current grade.
Ask to see these each week. Students are to put them in their binder. Using this method, you will
always know what your child’s grade is.
Following Classroom procedures is MOST important. Failure to follow them will result
in lower conduct grades and negative consequences (punish work and detentions).
It is difficult to get through the curriculum developed by the state when time in class is
wasted. We must be on task EVERY day if we are to be successful. No student will be allowed to
disrupt the learning environment. Please feel free to set
up a conference any time you have questions for me. I will answer all of your questions for you.
Please expect your child to do homework every night. Please make sure that they are in school
daily. This will help them to be successful. I do not stop teaching when a student is absent.

I am asking each student to have the following materials:

Large glue stick
Spiral Notebook / Students will use a new one each nine weeks.
Binder / Small / Put all worksheets, quizzes, tests etc. in it.
3 or more sharpened pencils daily
Small-lid on pencil sharpener
Colored pencils
Tape
Box of tissue or Wet ones / these are used in the classroom.
The math department is also collecting $1.00 for any additional supplies that we might need.

Thank you,
Lynda Bonura M.Ed.
