A Day, a Month, a Life of Thanksgiving

Life is best lived out of gratefulness. This was one of the early messages that Rob Bell gave at his 2 day conference that I attended last month. He went on to encourage those of us in attendance to see every moment, conversation, interaction in life as being important, adding that life is short, and that its important that we love those in our lives. Its a message that I needed to hear at the time, and I think its a message that I need to hear over and over again. Because in life its easy to be ungrateful. Its easy to take things for granted. Its easy to want more, to miss the blessings in front of us and all around us, to grow cold and callous towards people and life. At the end of the month is Thanksgiving. I love Thanksgiving. Turkey and potatoes and corn and cranberries (not the jello kind but the actually berries) and sweet potato casserole and sweet potato casserole and football (Ravens vs. Steelers this year!) and family and throwing the football around outside and relaxing and board games and black Friday ads and it just doesnt get much better. And for a lot of us its this day when our hearts are glad and our spirits are joyful and life is good. And we are grateful. But to have hearts that are glad and spirits that are joyful and to see life as good and to be grateful one day out of the year is not enough. So this year Im inviting you into a month of thanks and giving, with the hope that gratefulness would become part of our lives not just for one day, but for one month. And really, not just for one month, but for every month, and every day that grateful would become who we are. wherever. Well also have a post on facebook each day for those of you whod like to share. -Write some letters this month to some people you are thankful for. Tell them why you are thankful for them. -Give something to someone youre not close to. -In worship this month during the prayers of the people we are going to have prayers of thanksgiving in which there will be an open mic and everyone is invited to give God thanks as they would like. -This month you are also invited to put together an Operation Christmas Child shoebox, bring in canned goods for our local food pantrys, and help provide the evening meal that the Sr. League will be serving the at the Mission in Grand Forks on Saturday November 16th. -This year our Thanksgiving worship will be at First Lutheran on Wednesday November 27th at 7pm. I hope this month is a meaningful month of Thanksgiving for us. Those who bring thanksgiving as their sacrifice honor me; to those who go the right way I will show the salvation of God. Psalm 50.23 peace, Patrick
