Lactation consultant o The certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is an expert in the management of the breastfeeding mother-baby dyad. S/he is coach, consultant, teacher, and lactation expert. As a consultant, s/he works collaboratively with the Family Centered Maternity Unit, Well Baby Nursery and Neonatal Intensive Care unit, Pediatrics, OB, Family Practice, and nursing care teams to develop feeding plans for a range of infants from the normal newborn to the complex neonate. S/he makes clinical assessments, and uses current lactation theories and research to develop evidence-based feeding plans that address individual feeding issues while respecting the physicians and familys breastfeeding goals. Our CNMs provide full scope of practice for the management of pregnancy, childbirth and gynecological care. Deliveries are done in our hospital in La Crosse, which includes five LDR rooms, two water birthing suites, a Level III NICU, and 24-hour anesthesia coverage. Collaboration with OB/GYN Physicians, Family Medicine Practitioners, and Family Medicine Residents are an essential part of this position. The position will include clinic time and 24 hour in-house call and triaging of Obstetrical patients (shared equally among our CNMs). Those who are practicing at least 35 hours a week report an annual base salary of $84,850 and an annual total income of $91,060.
