SVLs Moore Sworn into NJ Air National Guard

David Moore, Salmon Ventures Director of Research and External Communications, was sworn in as a First Lieutenant with the 108th Air Refueling Wing (ARW), New Jersey Air National Guard (ANG). David will serve as a Medical Service Corps officer with the 108ths Medical Group located at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

PHOTO CORNER DR. SALMON HONORED BY NAACP 2013 NJ GOVERNOR AND US SENATE SPECIAL ELECTION

David was joined by his parents Joe and Kathy, girlfriend Jennifer, and NJ Fifth District Assemblyman Gilbert Whip Wilson. David previously worked in the Fifth District under Wilson who is an Air Force combat veteran. The 108th ARW, nicknamed Jersey Thunder, has over 1,200 airmen and serves a dual state and federal role. The New Jersey ANG is under the jurisdiction of the Governor of New Jersey unless federalized by the President of the United States. As such the ANG is a vital component of the US Air Forces Reserve unit structure. New Jersey ANG units have been deployed overseas in Afghanistan, Iraq and many other worldwide locations. The New Jersey ANG has flown over 17,000 hours during ongoing operations for the Global War on Terrorism. David will work as a Medical Services Corp Officer completing an array of

administrative and logistical duties to support the wings healthcare providers and ensure the 108th Airmen receive top notch medical care. David will undergo Commissioned Officer Training next year at Maxwell Air Force Base located in Alabama.

Shore Medical Center Hosts Congressman Robert Andrews

On April 29th, Congressman Rob Andrews was the featured speaker at Shore Medical C e n t er s F a l l E x e c u ti v e Leadership Forum. The Congressman is the Ranking member on the Health, Employment, Labor and Pensions Subcommittee. He is an advocate for the Affordable Care Act and spoke with attendees about the positives of the laws and the problems that need to be addressed to improve it. He also addressed the need to increase medical research funding or the United States risks falling behind other countries doing research.

Hopewell Township Land Preservation Announced
On August 29th, Hopewell Township along with key local, county and state officials, as well as, the American Littoral Society, Open Space Conservancy, Inc. and J.S. Hovnanian and Sons announced the preservation of 132.55 acres of land in Hopewell Township. Salmon Ventures was instrumental in organizing and connecting the various groups.

The City of Bridgetons application to Green Acres was for $519,774.54, of which $389,830.91 is Green Acres funding and a $129,943.63 required match will be funded by Hopewell. Mayor Hankins also took a moment to emphasize the importance of the role played by their neighbors to the east, the City of Bridgeton. Since the land is contiguous to the Bridgeton City Park it was natural to include the City in this very aggressive project that will provide additional active recreational green space for both our communities and the county as a whole, said Hankins.

The announcement was made by the Mayor of Hopewell Township in conjunction with the County of Cumberland, the City of Bridgeton, the NJ Department of Environmental

Powelson Addresses NJ Energy Coalition

Fall 2013

The NJ Energy Coalition hosted Pennsylvania Utility Commission Chairman Robert Powelson for its Fall Members meeting at Tavistock Country Club. Under Powelsons tenure, Pennsylvania is a national leader on natural gas development and infrastructure improvement. He discussed the impact of natural gas prices on the region and offered insight into regulating emerging technologies. Powelson discussed the impact of shale gas on Pennsylvania's and the regions economy. NARUC Summer Meeting

The 2013 NARUC Summer Committee Meetings were held at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel, Denver, Colorado from Sunday, July 21st through Wednesday, July 24th. There were 1102 registrants in attendance (compared to 1016 in 2012; 1005 in 2011; 1031 in 2010; and 896 in 2009) representing state utility commissions, consumer groups, the utility industry, and financial institutions. Out of 1102 registrants, 130 were state utility commissioners representing 48 state commissions. Only Delaware and Virginia did not have commissioners in attendance.

Dr. Salmon Honored by NAACP
Dr. Edward H. Salmon was honored for his lifetime achievements and success as an area business owner by the Vineland Branch of the NAACP on Saturday October 19th, in Bridgeton. New Jersey State NAACP President Richard Smith was on hand to present the award to Dr. Salmon. Ed Salmon has been an advocate for equality as an educator, elected official and business leader, Smith said. Dr. Salmon does not help some of the time, or most of the time, but every single time we need assistance he delivers, stated Vineland Branch 1st Vice President and Banquet Chairperson Angie Edwards in reference to Dr. Salmons support of the NAACP and local minority organizations.

2013 NJ Governor and US Senate Special Election

On November 5th, incumbent New Jersey Governor Chris Christie defeated the Democratic challenger State Senator Barbara Buono 60.5% to 38% in the states gubernatorial race. This is a historic feat for the Governor since no Republican statewide candidate has won with over 50% of the vote since 1988. On October 16th, New Jersey held a Special Election to fill the seat vacated by the death of long term US Senator Frank R. Lautenberg. Newark Mayor Cory Booker, after having defeated Rep. Rush Holt, Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver, and Rep. Frank Pallone in an August Democratic primary, went on to seize victory in the special election against Republican Steve Lonegan.
