REAL-TIME COMBINATORIAL OPTIMIZATION FOR ELEVATOR GROUP DISPATCHING

Abstract:
A large class of transportation problems consists of moving human would-be travelers from where they are to where they wish to be. One of these, the problem of dispatching building elevators, is our focus. One barely notices an elevator when it provides prompt efficient service. Yet, when confronted with a long wait, or a crowded car making many stops, it is common to imagine how the system ought to work, and to wonder how the designers could have failed so miserably. A building owner must provide elevator service that meets the needs of the occupants, or else the occupants will relocate. The quality of the elevator service is a major component of the overall utility and attraction of a building. It is essential that the elevator system that is designed for the building and its uses provide service that is good enough to satisfy the users and to avoid complaint.

Existing system:
In the existing system, the elevators are made to stop at each floor. The disadvantage is that the elevators are unwontedly stopped. This is overcome in our proposed system.

Proposed system:
In the proposed system, the elevators are intelligently monitored. The user who needs to move to the other floors has to press the up or down arrow on the elevator display menu. The pressed option is transmitted to the elevator section. If the elevator in that shaft is behind and in the direction of that floor, it stops at the pressed floor. Else it sends the information of the elevator which is near to the floor and moving in the requested direction. The elevator display section consists of a ARM Processor, and a graphical LCD. The elevator section consists of a DC Motor, IR sensor and a displaying LCD interfaced with PIC Microcontroller. The travelling status is exchanged between the Elevators. Using IR Sensor the overload problem is eliminated.
