TULAY, Wendell A.

MEB31 Biol143La LABORATORY APPARATUSES FOR MOLECULAR BIOLOGY LABORATORY Illustration Description
It was invented by Charles Chamberland in 1879 although a precursor known as the steam digester was created by Denis Papin in 1679. The name comes from Greek auto-, ultimately meaning self, and Latin clavis meaning keya selflocking device

Capability
Used to sterilize equipment and supplies by subjecting them to high pressure saturated steam at 121 C for around 1520 minutes depending on the size of the load and the contents.

Biomedical uses
Medical Autoclave is used in medicine for sterilizing equipment contamination for different kinds of microbes like bacteria, viruses,, fungi, and spores. Autoclaving is often used to sterilize medical waste prior to disposal in the standard municipal solid waste stream

Autoclave

Developed in 1983 by Kary Mullis, PCR is now a common and often indispensable technique used in medical and biological research labs for a variety of applications.

Used to amplify a single or a few copies of a piece of DNA across several orders of magnitude, generating thousands to millions of copies of a particular DNA sequence.

Polymerase Chain Reaction Machine (PCR Machine)

An agarose gel is placed in this buffer-filled box and electrical field is applied via the power supply to the rear. The negative terminal is at the far end (black wire), so DNA migrates toward the anode (red wire). It is used in clinical chemistry to separate proteins by charge and/or size (IEF agarose, essentially size independent) and in biochemistry and molecular biology to separate a mixed population of DNA and RNA fragments by length, to estimate the size of DNA and RNA fragments or to separate proteins by charge

Basically for different processes in the study of the DNA. These include DNA cloning for sequencing, DNA-based phylogeny, or functional analysis of genes; the diagnosis of hereditary diseases; the identification of genetic fingerprints (used in forensic sciences and paternity testing); and the detection and diagnosis of infectious diseases.

For the study of DNA, RNA, and proteins and its possible malfunctions.

Gel Electropheresis

Instrument used to view electroscopic gels and other similar substances on which nucleic acids may be bound by means of dluorescent dye.

Used to visualized DNA, RNA, and protein after extraction by the gel electrophoresis

For the study of DNA, RNA, and proteins and its possible malfunctions.

UV Transilluminator
The spectrophotometer allows selection of a wavelength pass through the solution. Usually, the wavelength chosen which corresponds to the absorption maximum of the solute. Absorbency is indicated with a capital A. In medical technology, spectrophotometry is used to determine the seriousness of a heart attack by taking an enzyme from the blood of a patient and comparing it to a standard curve.

An instrument which measures the amount of light of a specificed wavelength which passes through a medium.

Spectrophotometer

An instrument used to view small objects that cant be seen by the naked eye

This can magnify the organsism or object depending on the objective used, it can be 40x, 100x, 400x, and 1000x.

Microscopes are very important because they help discover the existence of microorganisms, learn the structure of cells, and observe the smallest components of plants, animals, and fungi. A microscope is also used as a tool for diagnosis infection in hospitals.

Light Microscope
A laboratory equipment driven by a motor, which spins liquid samples at high speed. There are various types of centrifuges, depending on the size and the sample capacity. The centrifuge works using the sedimentation principle, where the centripetal acceleration causes denser substances to separate out along the radial direction (the bottom of the tube). By the same token lighter objects will tend to move to the top (of the tube; in the rotating picture, move to the centre).

Centrifuge

One type of centrifuge is the clinical centrifuge used for clinical applications like blood collection tubes, lowspeed devices

A serofuge is a name for a centrafuge used to spin down samples of blood

This equipment is designed specifically for blood cell washing procedure and for the separation of serum from cells.

For the study of blood serum and blood cell, like in centrifuge but more specific in separation

Serofuge
The rotary evaporator is a device gently and efficiently evaporating solvents from a mixture It consists of a heated rotating vessel which is maintained under vacuum though a tube connecting it to a condenser.

Rotary evaporators are also used in molecular cooking for the preparation of distillates and extracts.

Imortance in medicine it can be a tool that can help in making drugs and experimental crudes for different kind of tests.

Rotary evaporator (RotaVap)

This equipment is used in molecular biology and biochemistry tos tore and centrifuge small amounts of liquid

Also uses sedimental principle where small amounts of substance separate through the fast acceleration

Likewise to the serofure and centrifuge that it is For the study of blood serum and blood cell, like in centrifuge but more specific in separation

Microfuge
Many pipette types work by creating a partial vacuum above the liquid-holding chamber and selectively releasing this vacuum to draw up and dispense liquid. Measurement accuracy varies greatly depending on the style. To transport a measured volume of liquid, often as a media dispenser. Pipettes come in several designs for various purposes with differing levels of accuracy and precision, from single piece glass pipettes to more complex adjustable or electronic pipettes

Pipette

Used in medicine for accurate measurement in drug making and other substances that will be transferred in a very small amound
