Sana Rafaqat Film Studies 13346 As Level Film Studies-Production Planning: A location Report For my As Level Film Studies portfolio I need to make a creative artefact which is a part of my planning. For this part of the portfolio I am told to choose from four different planning materials. From those four I am told to choose one of the planning materials for a creative artefact which is influenced by the textual analysis. The four artefacts are: An animatic story board A series of photographs with notes representing a location report A series of screen tests with notes A shot list with digital photographs to illustrate

From these four I have chosen the second one which is a location report, following a textual analysis of two contemporary Action movies, Skyfall (2012) and Avengers Assemble (2012). In the textual analysis I have explored the representation of the protagonists in both of the movies. I have developed my portfolio by exploring a creative artefact which is based on the ideas of the analysis. I am going to create a 9 key frame artefact which consists of a script of an extract from the movie. The 9 key frames will be based on the location report, consisting of five to six images, these pictures are all external as the scene of my extract is a chase scene which is taken outside. I intend to use these locations in my creative artefact.

Sana Rafaqat Film Studies 13346 Location 1- Alleyway between Houses

My first location is an alleyway which is between two houses, located in the eastern side of London. For cinematography, I intend to use a mid-shot or long shot where the two protagonists and the main antagonist are starting their chase from. The characters will enter from the right hand side with the antagonist being in front and the main face on the camera, then the two protagonists will follow him and then they will also come from that direction however some moments later. This shows that the heroes are behind the villain in the beginning of the scene. The moment the villain steps out on the alleyway, it creates tension for the audience as to where the heroes are, and while they are going through their thoughts, thats when the heroes are presented in a heroic way with non-diegtic sound presenting them. This gives it a hero like persona. The sounds which I will use will be obvious non-diegtic sounds which are used in other films to present heroes entering the movie or a particular scene. The use of diegtic sound will also be included in the chase scene as the two protagonists will need to communicate with each other so that they can catch the villain. It is clear that from my textual analysis that diegetic and non- diegetic sounds play an important part in enhancing the genres, as the genre is Action and there is a lot of sound in chases and fight sequences. The walls on both sides of the scene will play a part in the scene as this will be the way that the antagonists goes from one location to the other. Because he is doing that, the protagonists will also need to use the same wall to get them to the same location as the villain. The narrow alleyway will create a sense of congested environment where there is not too much room to move around. All three of the characters will be present in this location as it is the beginning part of the scene.

Sana Rafaqat Film Studies 13346 Location 2- The Street, External

Following from my previous location, this open space is connected to the alleyway. This is my second location as this is what comes when you exit the alleyway. This is located directly outside the alleyway. This is the place where the characters run to. The antagonist reaches to this location first and then moments later the two protagonists reach this location too. The camera shot that is used to move from one location to the other is a fast cutting shot; this is a quick way to show the other location. There will also be close up shots of the protagonists; this shows their expression towards the antagonist. We as the audience members know how the heroes feel. The camera will be positioned at the end of the alleyway but in a direction where we will be able to see the characters. If it is a close up then the camera person will go towards the specific characters to catch their expressions. The characters will run straight from the alleyway to a greenery part of the road. In this location there is more room to move around. In that case it will become much easier for the heroes to catch the villain. Because there are two protagonists they can split up into different direction so that they can surround the villain in a close area. Sounds will be of footsteps of the characters running.

Sana Rafaqat Film Studies 13346 Location 3- External long Alleyway

My third location is a location which is connected to my second location. This is where the protagonists start getting ahead of the antagonist. For cinematography, I will use different shots to present the part of the scene. As I am doing a 9 key frame shot with three locations, I am going to take three shots from different angles of each location. This way you can see different camera shots and also different aspects of the scene. As there is not too much space to run around but just run straight. This makes me want to take a wide shot, to show the characters running after each other. As you can see that there is a pole at the right hand side of the image. This pole is used as an object, which is used by the characters so that they can stop and shoot each other. Guns are also an object, which is used by the characters, as this is a chase fight scene. James Bond played by Daniel Craig has one weapon, which is a gun, which he always keeps around. This comes in handy when in these situations. The other protagonist who is with James Bond is called Thor; he too has a weapon that he uses that is a hammer. His weapon has a big force which can dent things just by the touch of the hammer.
