Zen (Zen Buddhism)
The Zen sect is one of the denominations of Buddhism. Zen is defined as an enlightened religious and mental state attained by achieving serenity of mind. One of the practices used to obtain this serenity of mind is called zazen or sitting in silent meditation. According to the Zen sect, truth is something which transcends the expressions of language and letters. It can only be grasped through the direct proof of experience obtained in the practice of zazen. The Zen sect has become the backbone of the samurai spirit, tea cult, Japanese garden and ikebana or Japanese flower arrangement. It has exerted great influence on Japanese thought, culture and literally all aspect of Japanese life. In Japan today there are a good many people, besides the Zen priests, who pursue truth by practicing zazen. As a method of spiritual training, some people pay periodical visits to Zen temples for short sessions of zazen. LEFT: Zen style Bonsai (Nandina domestica) display in house entrance. Nandina domestica (Japanese Sacred Bamboo)

A very ornamental and unique plant, widely grown as a house plant throughout Japan. Short-jointed bamboo-like stems, new ones appearing at intervals, crowned by an umbrella head of elegant finely divided lustrous foliage on wire-like stalks. Upright sprays of small white flowers appear upon mature growths in summer followed by red berries in winter. (Standout nicely in snow and berries are used to cure a sore throat) Excellent plant for courtyard. One of my favourite plants. Avoid afternoon sun and good soil preparation needed. .May 1976, I was back in Darwin and started working in a restaurant as a kitchen hand and something wonderful happened to me. I met my life partner at my 25th Birthday party. She stood out like a . I dont know how to say it. Soon after that I got my old job back at the sheet metal factory. They also gave a job to my girlfriend in the office. And surprise surprise. I negotiated my pay with the boss and got $140 a week which was a 40% pay rise. We both had two jobs going, one at the sheet metal

bourne where my partner lived in her teens but as we both hadnt seen WA agreed to go through Perth, Adelaide and then on to Melbourne. When we got to Perth, we just loved the place and thought we would stay for a while. We never made it to Melbourne YET! I found a job with the Main Roads Department Moora Depot as a surveyors assistant and again experienced honesty and hard work pays off. The life style wasnt great because I was away Monday Friday and only my life in Perth was Saturday and Sunday. I quit after 4 years with MRD and with my partners advice, I decided to become Japanese Landscaper. But before I quit MRD, I was having an experience and half in the bush life that even many Aussies dont have. To be Continued

If you want to see the water in the pond, youll need to get a stainless steel tray and set water feature as in photo C. You can find granite water features, square pond and pump from Japon Subiaco. Dont forget to mention this newsletter and youll get 15% off garden ornaments and water features.

Square pond is made of recycled plastic and very strong with support bar that can stand up to 300Kg which most stone water features from Japon can sit on it. You may have to put a wedge under the water feature to make sure that the water will run evenly or run the the way you want. You can ask Paul in Japon for further question.
