DISTRIBUTIVE PROPERTY

The Distributive Property is to help you do mental math when you are in the middle of a equation Steps to Solve Using the Distributive Property:

EX: 5(48)
5(40)+5(8) 120+40=160 *First you want to change the problem *To change the problem you change the digits to make it easier on yourself *When you change the problem you multiply and then add *When you finally add you have your answer

ASSOCIATIVE PROP OF ADDITION

The associative Property of Addition is the statement states that you can add any numbers regardless how they are grouped. The Associative Property is to help make expressions shorter. And as long as you use parenthesis, you should end up with the same answer

Steps to solve using the Associative Prop of Addition

EX: (18+9)+9 (9+9)+18=36 EX 2: (8+13)+27 (27+13)+8=38 *First re arrange the expression

*Then you re group the numbers (to make simpler)

*And then you finally you Add to get the sum

ASSOCIATIVE PROP OF MULTIPLICATION

The Associative Property of Multiplication is practically the same thing as the Associative Prop of Addition just you use different symbols. When you multiply using the Associative Property where you put the parenthesis as long as it helps you.

Steps to solve using the Associative Prop of Multiplication

EX: (6*4)*2 (4*2)*6=48 EX 2: (3*7)*6 (7*6)*3=126 *First you re arrange the equation

*Next You regroup the numbers however you like

*Then you multiply the expression to get your answer

COMMUTATIVE PROP OF ADDITION

The commutative Prop of Addition is when is a property where you can take any digits from the equation re arrange them and you sum will still be the same as long as your symbols stay the same. Steps of the Commutative Property EX: 6+7=7+6 EX 2: 9+8+7=7+8+9 *First you use the digits in the equation *Then you keep the symbol of addition and make a new equation

*When you change the equation and keep the symbol

COMMUTATIVE PROP OF MULTIPLICATION

The Commutative Property of Multiplication is almost the same thing as the Commutative Property of Addition. The Commutative Property of Multiplication is where you can still take the numbers from the first part of the equation and make an equality or another equation. All you have to do is take the same numbers that were shown or written already re arrange them as long as you keep the same symbol every time. Steps of the Commutative Prop of Multiplication EX: 6*9 9*6 EX 2: 9*3*2 3*2*9 *Always start out with taking the numbers from the first equation *Then re arrange the equation using the same symbols *Multiply both sides to make sure you have the same answer

SOLVING EQUATIONS USING LIKE TERMS

EX: 4 (7x-3)+2x *First you have to take away the parenthesis

*Multiply 4 and 7x to get 28x

*Then multiply 4 and 3 to get 12 *Once you get rid of the parenthesis you combine like terms 28x+2x=30x

*Now you take 30x and then add 12 to make your expression
30x+12

STEPS TO SOLVE BY COMBINING LIKE TERMS

EX: 7x - 10 - 9x= -13 *First you must combine like terms using the symbol in front of the second like term. *7x 9x= -2x *Next you must stay in the same order of the equation and add -2x to it and take away 9x and 7x -2x 10= -13 *Then you approach the equation as a two step equation

-2x= -3
*Then you divide -2x to both sides and should end up with x= -1.5

NECESSARY STEPS TO SOLVE USING LIKE TERMS WITH UNLIKE DENOMINATORS

EX: 5x/6 + x/3 - 1/2 = 11/6 *First you find unlike denominators by multiplying 5x + 2x 3= 11 *Then you combine like terms 7x 3 = 11 *Once you do that you approach the equation as a 2 step equation 7x 3 = 11 +3 +3 *Finally you approach the equation like a regular equation 7x = 14 *Once you solve you should get the answer of x = 2

SOLVING & GRAPHING INEQUALITIES

Wen you are given an inequality to graph most of the time you would have to solve the equation first. If you however come across an inequality that you have to solve and it involves multiplying or dividing by a negative number you always have to switch the symbol around.

EX: 2 x/-5
(-5) -10 x (-5) -----------------------

------------------ -10 0

SOLVING AND GRAPHING INEQUALITIES

EX: -4x + 4 -8 -4 -4 ----------------------------

-4x -12
-----4 ------4

x3
--------------------- 0 3

CLOSED CIRCLES AND OPEN CIRCLES

The difference between the closed circles and the open circles is that the closed can be a part of the solution set and the open circles cant. And both circles can also be graphed. 0 ----------------- 0 20
