OBJECTIVE: The objective of this project is to create a simulation model using the various processes and resources to minimize

the cooling time . The model indicates the arrival of the trucks and receiving of the pallets through forklifts, storage of pallets, and cooling process through wet and dry box methods. Once the model is built and verified we will run various experiments to streamline the operations. KEY PERFORMANCE MEASURES: umber of products processed per day. !tilization rate of "orklifts !tilization rate of #hade bays $verage and %aximum &ueue length of inbound trucks . $verage and maximum time span between truck arrival and forklifts entering cooling process. $verage and maximum time span between truck arrival and pallet entering 'ry or (et )ox. $verage and maximum time span between truck arrival and pallet entering cooling process .

WHAT IF SCENARIOS: %odify level and mix of inbound product types. %odify the number and type of resources. ot wait for *full+ tube before starting cooling process !se faster loaders for the pallet moving process.

LOGIC TO BE MODELED: The inbound truck process key process steps are: Truck arrives: Truck arrival process will be modeled using an ,xponential distribution where the average varies by time of day within -. am to / pm. 0nbound trailers will always be full and will consist of same product on it. 1age -

%ost trucks will come with 2 trailers exception will be $nise, #pinach, berry and artichoke. "or the initial phase of this model, only 3ompany $ and 3ompany ) products will be modeled. 4eceiving verifies product, prints stickers, and updates inventory. &3 check process will not be modeled since it is not on the critical path. 4eceiving takes 562. minutes, with -. minutes most likely. &3 check occurs while pallets are being unloaded. 0t takes -.62. minutes . 1allets !nloading: "orklifts unload pallets, and move them under shade bays, or to cooling tunnels. 1reference is for -2 pallet forklift to do this, with support from other forklifts as needed .

"orklifts move pallets from shade bay to appropriate cooling process as capacity is available. 1allets go through appropriate cooling process. 1allets are moved to entry points of 'ry or (et )ox. 1allets are put in storage in cooler

MODEL ASSUMPTIONS: The following assumptions are appropriate to ensure a practical level of detail for the model: $ll the products moving through the model will be at the pallet level. There will be only one product type in shade bay at one time. "orklifts will be modeled with a moving speed, pick6up time, and drop6off time. The acceleration7deceleration rate will not be modeled explicitly. (e will use the !niform and Triangular distributions for most processing times. SIMULATION RUN TIME PARAMETERS:

$fter model is verified, we will determine the statistically appropriate run6 time parameters. These include warm6up length , run6length, and number of replications.
