The Book of JOHN

CHAPTER 1
God became human form to save us from our sins.

In the beginning was the Word. The word was God. The word was Jesus, and Jesus was with God, and Jesus was God. 2 Jesus was there back in the beginning of time with God. 3 Everything is made by God; nothing has been made that God himself did not make. 4 In God there was life; and that life was the light of everyone. 5 Gods light shines in the darkness; and the darkness can never defeat the light. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7-8 John was sent by God to tell the people about the Light, so that through John people might believe in Jesus. (8 John himself was not the Light; John was sent by God to tell everyone about the Light that is to soon come.) 9 Jesus is the light that John was speaking of that was coming into this world; and Jesus is the true light that shines for everyone to save them from the darkness. The Light that John wanted to tell the people about was already living in the world in human form as Jesus, and even though that the world was made by Jesus, sadly the world did not know who Jesus was yet. 10 Jesus came into this world, and even though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him. 11 Jesus came into the world that was his own. And his own people did not accept him. 12 There were people who believed in the name Jesus. But they did not accept him to be Jesus. Yet to all the people who did accept him, and believed in him, Jesus gave them the right to become children of God. 13 They became Gods children, but not in the same way children are usually born. But they were born again spiritually through Jesuss name from God himself. 14 God the father, became the son Jesus, and lived among us in human form. Jesus was full of unconditional love, and faithfulness. And we have seen Gods glory from his only the son Jesus. Jesus is Grace, and Jesus is the truth. 15 John, whos also known as John the Baptist told the people about Jesus. He said loudly This is the one I was talking about when I said, The one who is coming after me is far greater than I am, because he was living before I was even born. 16 From Jesus who has given us grace and truth, and from him we all have received many blessings.

17 For the law was given to us through Moses, but grace and truth come through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God. But Gods only Son Jesus has shown us what God is like. He himself is God and stands at the Father's side.

John the Baptist tells us about the Messiah

19 The Jewish leaders sent priests from Jerusalem to ask John who he was, The Priests asked John Who are you? are you the Christ? 20 And John told them the truth No, I am not the Christ. 21 Then the Priests asked him, Who then are you? Are you Elijah? John said, No I am not Elijah. The Priests continued to ask Are you the Prophet? And John answered No I am not the Prophet. 22 So the Priests said to him, Who are you then? As we need an answer to give our leaders who sent us here. The Priests then asked What do you say about yourself? 23 John replied and said, I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, making a path for the way for the Lord, as the prophet Isaiah said. 24 These Priests whom had been sent from their Pharisee leaders questioned John some more and asked, 25 Then why do you baptize people if you are not the Messiah, or Elijah, or the Prophet? 26 John answered them and said, I baptize with water but among you stands one that you do not know 27 And he is the one who comes after me, whose straps on his sandals I am unworthy to untie John replied. 28 All of this happened at Bethany along the Jordan River where John was baptizing people.
John the Baptist Baptizes Jesus

29 The next day John saw Jesus walking towards him and John said Look! Here is the Lamb of God who will take away the sins of the world! 30 He is the one I was talking about when I said, A man is coming after me who is far greater than me, for he has existed long before all of us were born. 31 I did not know who he was. But I came baptizing people with water so that Israel could know that Jesus is the Messiah. 32 John then went on to say After I baptized Jesus in the river I looked up into the sky and saw the Holy Spirit descending down like a dove from heaven and resting upon Jesuss shoulder.

32-33 John continued to say When God sent me to baptize with water, God told me, you will see the Holy Spirit come down from heaven and rest on a man. 34 And I saw this happen to Jesus, so I can tell you that he is the Chosen One of God.
Jesuss first Disciples

35 The next day John the Baptist was at the river and had two of his followers with him. 36 He saw Jesus walking by and said, Look, there the Lamb of God! 37 When Johns two followers heard what John had said they began to follow Jesus. 38 Jesus looked and saw them following him, And Jesus said What do you want? he asked them. The followers replied Rabbi (which means Teacher), Where are you staying? 39 Jesus answered, Come with me and you will see. So the two men went with him. And they saw the place where Jesus was staying, and they stayed there with him that day. It was around four oclock. 40 One of the followers was named Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter. 41 Andrew went to go and find his brother Simon, and then Andrew said to him, Simon, We have found the Messiah, the son of God., We have found the Christ 42 When Andrew brought Simon to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, You are Simon, the son of John. I will call you Cephas. (Cephas means Peter). 43 The next day Jesus went to Galilee. He met Philip and said to him, Follow me. 44 Philip was from Bethsaida, the same town as Andrew and Peter. 45 Then Philip went found Nathanael and told him, We have found the one that Moses wrote about in the law The prophets wrote about him too.: He is Jesus, the son of Joseph. He is from Nazareth. 46 Nazareth! How can anything good come from Nazareth? Nathanael asked. Come and see for yourself, Philip replied. 47 When Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him he said, This man walking towards me is a true Israelite, this is a man you can trust 48 Nathanael asked Jesus, How do you know me? Jesus answered, I saw you under the fig tree, before Philip found you. 49 Then Nathanael said, Teacher, you are the Son of God. You are the King of Israel ! 50 Jesus then asked him, Do you believe me just because I told you I had seen you under the fig tree? You will see much greater things than this. I tell you the truth; you will all see heaven open wide and the all angels of God flying around the Son of Man.

Jesus turns water into wine

Two days later there was a wedding in the town of Cana in Galilee, And Jesus mother Mary was there. 2 Jesus and his followers were also invited. 3 And during the wedding everyone drank all the wine, so Mary said to Jesus They have no more wine. 4 Jesus answered, Mother, why are you telling me this? It is not yet time for me to begin my work. 5 Then Mary said to the servants, Do what he tells you. 6 Standing nearby were six stone water jars used by for ceremonial washings, with each jar holding from twenty to thirty gallons. 7 Jesus said to the servants Fill the jars with water, so they filled them to the top. 8 Then he told the servants, Now pour some out, and then take it to the man who is hosting the wedding. 9 When the host tasted this wine, and not knowing where it had come from, he called the bridegroom over. 10 The host said People always serve the best wine first. Then later, when the guests are drunk, they serve the cheaper wine. But you have saved the best wine until now. 11 Turning water into wine was the first of all the miracles that Jesus did. And by doing this Jesus showed his divine greatness, and his followers believed in him.
Jesus at the Temple

13 It was almost time for the Jewish Passover celebration, so Jesus went to Jerusalem to the Temple. 14 When Jesus walked into the Temple area he saw men selling cattle, sheep, and doves. And he saw others sitting at tables exchanging, and trading money. 15 Jesus, who was now furious at what he saw, made a whip out of a few pieces of rope, and then forced all of traders out of the temple, along with the sheep and cattle. Jesus then flipped over the tables of the traders and scattered all their money upon the ground. 16 Then he yelled at the traders who were selling pigeons, Take these things out of here! Dont make my Fathers house a Marketplace! 17 When Jesuss disciples saw this they remembered this prophecy from the Scriptures: The passion I have for Gods house will consume me 18 Some Jews who were there said to Jesus, Show us a miracle as a sign from God. Prove to us that you have the right to do these things here in Gods temple. 19 Jesus answered, Destroy this temple and I will re-build it in three days. 20 The Jews answered back, It took 46 years to build this Temple! Do you really believe you can rebuild it again in only three days?

21 But Jesus did not mean this temple built of wood and stone, but the temple Jesus meant was that of his own body. 22 And later, After Jesus died and was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered this day. So they believed the Scriptures, and they believed the words Jesus said.

23 Jesus stayed in Jerusalem for the Passover festival. And many people believed in him because they saw the miracles Jesus had performed. 24 But Jesus did not trust the people, because he knows how people think. 25 And he did not need anyone to tell him what a person was like. He already knew.
