Prayer of the )ay

Birthday Wishes
Ginny Xie 28th November For Strength and Wisdom Thank you, ord, for being there for me and allowing me to cry out to you in my times of need. It is ama!ing to me that the ord of the "ni#erse would take time to listen to me and to care about what I say. $od, there are things happening around me right now that I do not understand. %ome of these things make me feel weak, helpless and afraid. &#en in the midst of this, I know that you are the ord. I know that the situation is in 'our hand, and I trust 'ou. I beseech you for strength and for wisdom that I would be able to endure this situation and be able to handle it in a way that would bring glory to 'our name. In (esus name. Amen.

Thank you to all of the stall holders, the patrons and the people and organisations, and parish that donated items for our stalls and auction. astly, thank you to all of those students that supported the fair by coming along, dragging family with you, spending money and ha#ing fun. Thank you to those students that ran stalls themsel#es, relie#ing each other for breaks and showing leadership and maturity through your actions and role modelling. .ell done. Tu meke e tamariki. There were a few random acts of kindness that happened during the fair as well, where people showed by their actions their 4hristian spirit and just how nice they could be. There were also people that ha#e nothing to do with the school that kindly chipped in and helped run stalls or e#ents, and I thank particularly ,rs 5 /,iss 5s ,um1 and another ,iss 5 /our ,iss 5s sister1 for their efforts and assistance. Ha#ing had all of the ladies from the 5 family running the pillow fighting e#ent for se#eral hours, I would suspect that you would ha#e to be a foolish person to take any of them on in a pillow fight now. Athletics .hat a wonderful day we had for the athletics. The powers that be turned on the weather for us and the kids really outdid themsel#es.

This photograph shows one area that got a little hotter and ha!ier than the rest and reBuired a little burst of 4*=.

I think that ,ike was taking the excuse of 9I dont get asked to cook barbecues because I always burn the saussies; a little too far to pro#e the point. ,r 5rice came to the rescue and sa#ed the bbB, although, sadly, it was a little too late for some of the sausages. There was a moderate turnout of parents and whanau and kids were well supported by each other. A #ery special thanks again, to ,rs 5. and the other ,iss 5. for chipping in and helping with running the shot put and all of the other tasks and things that you did to make our day go easier. Another #ery special thanks goes to some of our past2 students for coming along and helping out with running e#ents. I cannot emphasise how important it is that past students maintain links with our school, and that we dont cut them off once they lea#e here as many primary schools do. I #alue the input of past students as they become young adults and I know that it is important for many of them to ha#e that contact and grounding with their beginnings. It ne#er hurts any of us to acknowledge where come from and it could be Buite a humbling experience for some. I know that it is also great for our current students to see their older peers come back

in a positi#e leadership role and being treated as eBuals by the staff and parents. .e are showing our students that these kids that come back ha#e attributes and skills that we #alue, and some of these they should be aspiring to ha#e. %o thank you to %imon 4unningham, (ayden 5atterson, %am &dh and 3ailey .ikaira: you guys are awesome. The students all performed and beha#ed superbly /as usual1. There were some surprise results and there were some predictable results, but at the end of the day, e#eryone was tired and most, if not all had done their #ery best. 4ertificates will be forthcoming at todays assembly. 5lease note the difference between grades for field e#ents and track e#ents. 7ield e#ents ha#e age groups in each year, whereas track e#ents ha#e bands, such as yrs C2D, yrs E20 etc. There are a whole range of reasons as to why there is a difference, but the simple #ersion is: because that is how we ran it. There were a number of students that excelled at sports and in their attitude towards competing and they will also ha#e been recognised with certificates. There are also a few certificates for participation, but these are

just as #alid as the ?st =nd and 6rd certificates as we do not gi#e out certificates just for doing what is expected. .e are not that politically correct. .e do reward effort and we do reward achie#ement, but we also encourage students to gi#e a little more and try a little harder. -ewarding students for doing nothing only encourages them to do more Fnothing, and that is not what we are here for. A special 9well done; to our newest ?A>> metre champion, .illem Haket. .hat a superb display of running. I can see that we ha#e a real contender for district or %outh 4anterbury competitions in the years to come. .illem absolutely blit!ed the field and won with a #ery comfortable margin. &#eryone else in the field was competiti#e runner but .illem showed his style and Buickly took and maintained the lead. <a pai .illemG (ust my #iews folks. +ont be offended. &*hool Fair 7 From Toni 8udemans

.hat a great day we had last weekend at the school fair, the sun was shining, the customers were lining up early and the horse didnt take long to find a winner. There are many people that need to be thanked, firstly to $areth on making such a great ,4 for the day, there was always something happening on the stage and it was great to see the students getting up to showcase their talents. To Tony 4hamberlain for the use of, and dri#ing his Buad bike for the sack rides, this was great fun for those young and older. 3rad and %iobhan kindly allowed us to use their dunk machine, this was a huge hit /or miss1 with students trying to get back at their teachers for all that homework. Also thanks to those who #olunteered to sit under and ha#e buckets of water dumped on their head, although I think it was found to be Buite refreshing on such a warm day. 3ridgette +a#idson at the &l 5aso dairy has been collecting things for the school fair for months now and contributed all the lucky dips for the fair, its great to see past students still interested in the success of the school. (o did a great job going around the businesses to generate some pri!es for a silent auction. The contributions came from Hammer Hardware, oot (ewellers, .aimate 5harmacy, -ed 4hillis, &mpire Ta#ern, - M - 3ookshop, 5arkers, .aimate *utdoors, %cissorhands, Inspire 3eauty, $ordan Handy, (oanne .ilson N Tupperware, 3ill *+onnell, ,eg %tanistreet, $ < Truck and Autos, otsa ollies. The 7ire %er#ice did a great job taking students /and adults1 for a ride in the fire truck, thank you to +a#id %hea for organising this. Also interfreight for the use of their truck as our stage, this made the entertainment easy to find. 5aula -ogers and -ural %cholars supplied the Horse for the Horse 5oo 3ingo, it is great to know that we can ask our fellow educators for help when we need it. To (ane %cott who came down on the day and helped out with the face painting, thank you for gi#ing up your day to help out a great school. There is small but hard working fair committee that ha#e helped in putting this e#ent together, 5enny, <errin, Annie, +arcy, (ess, (o, eanne, <athie, 3ecky, their ideas and preparation is what helped this to come together on the day. .e were o#erwhelmed with the amount of baking we recei#ed and the donations that contributed to the white elephant stall. These were all donated by parents, families, parish members and others who just heard about the fair and wanted to contribute. ,ost importantly I want to thank the parents and families of the school. 'our donations, help on the day and leading up to, selling bingo tickets, baking and anything else that I ha#e missed out N thank you to you all.
