Chapter 5 CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS FOR FUTURE WORK

5.1 CONCLUSIONS This thesis presents the work carried out on six phase Induction motor analysis using dual two level and dual Multi level inverter schemes. Six- phase induction motors are obtained by splitting the stator windings of the three phase induction motor into two equal halves, which has a phase separation of 30 electrical degrees between them. This Six phase Induction motor is then fed from both ends (i.e A,B,C phase group at Inverter X and M,N,O group at Inverter Y ) each with dual 2-level, dual 3-level,

dual 4-level, dual 5-level, dual 6-level and dual 7-level inverters which is presented in different cases. The Modelling of Six phase IM has also been explained. In the literature, the analysis of six phase IM using SVPWM technique for 2-level inverter only was available. In this thesis, an

attempt is made to evaluate the performance of six phase induction motor with dual 3L, dual 4L, dual 5L, dual 6L and dual 7L inverters using SVPWM technique independently with dynamic load torque. Six-phase induction motor analysis has been carried out using different Multi Level inverters and simulated results are compared for respective cases. In the first case the Six phase induction motor is fed from 2L SVPWM inverters on both ends. In the second case the

85 dual 2-level SVPWM inverter is replaced by the proposed

dual 3-level SVPWM inverter to analyze the performance of Six Phase IM. i.e. the A,B,C phase group of 2-level inverter(X) and the M,N,O phase group of 2-level inverter(Y) are replaced by 3-level inverter(X) for A,B,C phase group and 3-level inverter(Y) for M,N,O phase group of Six Phase IM. From the Simu lated results it is found that for Six phase Induction motor using dual 3-level inverters has given better results spectrum(THD=30.64% ) and i.e., better Harmonic

improved torque response i.e.

reduced torque ripples than dual two- level SVPWM fed SPIM The dual 4-level SVPWM inverter is fed to six phase induction motor in the third case and the dual 5-level SVPWM inverter is fed to SPIM in fourth case for investigations. From the third case of the simulated results, the phase voltage as V AB zero,

From the fourth case (i.e. dual 5-level SVPWM fed SPIM) the simulated results of phase voltage V AB having different level magnitudes obtained as 0, Vdc/4, 2Vdc/4,3Vdc/4, 4Vdc/4

(five levels in positive half cycle) and 0, -Vdc/4, -2Vdc/4,

86 -3Vdc/4, -5 Vdc/5 (five levels in negative half cycle). Then the acquired simulation results of Six phase Induction motor are superior i.e., better Harmonic spectrum(THD=16.02%) and

reduced torque ripples than dual four level SVPWM fed SPIM. The dual 6-level SVPWM inverter is fed to SPIM and the dual 7 level SVPWM fed SPIM is presented as case five and case six respectively for investigations. simulated results of level magnitudes 4Vdc/5, phase voltage as For the fifth case, the V AB with the different

dual 3-level and dual 2-level SVPWM fed SPIM i.e., better Harmonic spectrum (THD=14.37%) and improved torque. In the sixth case results (i.e. dual 7-level SVPWM fed SPIM) the simulated voltage V AB having different level magnitudes

induction motor schemes. 5.2 SUGGESTIONS FOR FUTURE WORK The six phase concept being a new one, a lot of Research work can be done in the field of six phase induction motor. It may also be possible to increase the phases up to any number of phases for Induction Motor, like 12 phase, 24 Phase Induction motor etc. Then the reliability of the Induction motor is increased. In this present thesis work, the six phase Induction motor is considered for analysis with dual 2-level to 7-level symmetrical dual inverters. It is suggested that an asymmetrical dual inverters can also be possible to analyze the performance of six phase induction motor. It is also suggested that both symmetrical and asymmetrical multi level inverters can also be adapted for high phase induction motor. It may also be possible for six phase open end winding induction motor analysis using symmetrical multi level inverters, asymmetrical multi level inverters and combination of symmetrical and asymmetrical multi lever inverters.
