ESOL delivery under ESG

1. Each Learner should be enrolled before the course actual start date or on their first day of learning the latest. (For details regarding the Agreed Completion Date for all ESOL Learners please refer to point 4)

2. Learners Agreed Completion Date can be extended for additional 14 days if: a. The Tutor establishes that the Learner is not progressing quickly enough and requires extra support before attending the Final Test (e.g. extra workshops, one-toone sessions, practice assessments, etc.) b. The Learner fails the Final Test

3. ESOL Dates: a. Start Date first day of learning b. Agreed Completion Date within 12 days and on the last day of learning/Final Test day (e.g. if the course starts on the 15.04.2013, the Agreed Completion Date should be set for the 26.04.2013) c. Actual End Date the date of the Final Test if the Learner have passed it d. Achievement Date the date when Internal Verifier completes the internal verification in the Centre and issues the Test Result Log for the batch of ESOL Learners who attended the Final Test e. Exit Review Date: First Exit Review to be conducted on the Final Test date. This will allow the Learner to be completed on the CMS. The Tutor needs add a note that the Learner has completed his/her learning, attended the Final Test, and now is awaiting results. (Note: Exit Review does count towards GLH) Second Exit Review to be conducted after the Final Tests have been internally verified and assessors marking has been confirmed by the Internal Verifier with her issuing a Test Result Log for the batch of Final Tests. (Note: Exit Review does count towards GLH) f. Progress Review if the Learners Agreed Completion Date is extended for additional 14 days, then a Progress Review needs to be conducted with the Learner even though the total learning still is below 28 days.

4. Change of Circumstances Form needs to be filled in for all Learners whose Agreed Completion Date has changed or their circumstances change.

5. ESOL Consists of up to 45GLH of classroom learning with a Final Test scheduled on the 10th day of the course. The minimum amount of GLH per week is 20. Learners need to complete 50% of learning within the first 5 days of the course.

6. Each Learner attending the ESOL Final Test will be allocated a 45 minutes slot which covers the Final Test and this is the GLH that should be added to Learners Attendance Sheet. (Note: Final Test is not counted towards GLH)

7. Per the ESG Attendance list, the hours included in GLH calculation are the hours for: a. Diagnostic Assessment b. One-to-One Session(s) c. Workshops (excluding total break time) d. Exam Preparation and Feedback (Practice Assessments and Self-Evaluation Exercises if conducted before and/or after the Workshops) e. Progress Review (if applicable and conducted after the Workshops) f. Exit Review

8. The Learners can be and are advised to progress to next ESOL Entry Level. They can commence the course once they have been achieved (hence, only after the Internal Verification process has been completed) so a minimum of two weeks after their Final Test. 9. Each Learners file needs to contain a minimum of five worksheets (signed and dated by the Learner and marked by the Tutor). Five worksheets is an absolute minimum. Learners whose Initial Assessment established a substantial learning need, Learners whose Agreed Completion date has been extended or learners who require substantial additional support during the classes need to be given more worksheets.

instead of the Learners, ensuring that ESOL Tutors are writing the exact words the Learners are saying (even if it means that the structure of the sentences will be ungrammatical, etc.). Also, for every single ESOL Learner, Centre Administrators are required to add in the justification on the learning Agreement Part A that during the Initial Interview/Initial Assessment it has also been established that the Learner has very low English Writing and Reading skills and may require additional help from the Tutor in this area.
