PREVENTIVE PROGRAMS AND POLICY ON PULMONARY TUBERCULOSIS (PTB)


It is the policy of the company, CTAT CARGO MOVERS, INC., to ensure a consistent and equitable approach to the prevention of PTB among employees and their families, and to the management of the consequences of PTB, including the care and support of employees living with PTB.

What are the rights of employees who are Suffering or Infective of PTB?

1. Employees with pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) will be protected against discrimination. Normal company disciplinary and grievance procedures shall apply equally to all employees, as will the provision of information and education about PTB. 2. No employees should suffer adverse consequences, whether dismissal or termination of employment. 3. They shall not be declared unfit to work without appropriate, medical evaluation and counseling. 4. Employee has the right to remain his/her work after they take medication provided they need to secure a medical certificate from a competent physician from a government hospital or accredited health provider that signifies fit to work. 5. CTAT Cargo Movers, Inc. will help employees suspected or living with PTB to find appropriate medical services and assistance in the community such as treatment with private or public Directly Observed Treatment Short Course (DOTS) centers, as well as counseling services, professional support. Reasonable time off will be given for the counseling and treatment.

6. Through agreements made between the management and workers, work accommodation measures to support workers with the Pulmonary Tuberculosis is encouraged through flexible leave arrangements, rescheduling of working time and arrangement to return to work.

Responsibilities of CTAT Cargo Movers, Inc. as Employer 1. Appropriate awareness and education programs will be conducted to inform employees about PTB which will enable them to protect themselves from infectious bacteria. Some of these will include the families of employees and the local community; 2. CTAT Cargo Movers, Inc. recognizes the importance of involving all employees on the implementation of health awareness and education; 3. Ensure that the company policy and program shall be made known to all workers; 4. Ensure non-discriminatory practices in the workplace; 5. Ensure confidentiality of PTB cases to avoid discrimination in the workplace; 6. Shall pay an employee a separation pay which is in accordance with the law when an employee suffering with a PTB disease not curable within six (6) months and his/her continued employment is prejudicial to his/her health or to the health of his/her co-employees; 7. The management of CTAT Cargo Movers, Inc. shall assist the employees with PTB to determine and process appropriate compensation for TB benefits from the ECC, SSS and Philhealth; and 8. Continue to improve the program by networking with the government and organizations promoting PTB awareness.

Workers Responsibilities 1. All employees of CTAT Cargo Movers, Inc. shall take a pre-employment medical examination and annual medical examination; 2. Employees who became positive to PTB on both medical examinations shall take a confirmatory test on a government hospital at their own expense to validate the findings;

3. A certificate of fit to work shall be submitted to the management of CTAT Cargo Movers, Inc.; 4. In cases where an employee was given a six (6)-month rehabilitation period, a certificate of fit to work is still required to submit to the management of CTAT Cargo Movers, Inc. before assumption to his/her work; 5. All employees are required to take an active role in educating and training their members on PTB and including its prevention and control; 6. All employees shall practice non-discriminatory acts against co-workers suffering from PTB; and 7. Employees living with PTB may be encouraged to inform the health care provider such as the accredited company physician on their PTB status, to be able to know if their work activities may increase the risk of PTB infection and transmission.
