The story of A Great Big World began in the crowded practice rooms at NYU. Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino were both studying music business while fostering dreams of writing and performing. Ian quickly saw potential in partnering with Chad, and started lobbying him to work together on new songs. Fast forward a few years, and in 2012 A Great Big World was born. Making positive, piano-driven pop bursting with harmonies and woven together with a fun whimsical twist, the duo gained support through fans entirely on Kickstarter to fund their rst EP. They completed their rst national tours and opened shows for Ingrid Michaelson, Five For Fighting, and Glee star Matthew Morrison. Their live performances showcased their deep friendship, and featured a warm, engaging interplay and theatrical touches reminiscent of artists like Simon and Garfunkel, Elton John, and most currently, FUN. Their song This Is the New Year gained new life in 2013 by being performed by the cast of Foxs hit TV series Glee. When we wrote This Is the New Year, we always said this would be perfect for Glee! enthuses Chad, We still cant even believe its all real. This Is the New Year has been featured on One Tree Hill, MTV, The Amazing Race, ESPN, Good Morning America and more, as well as performances on the Rachael Ray Show, The Today Show and recently The O Music Awards. The song will be included on their rst full-length album, out in October 2013. MKTO is comprised of dynamic twosome Tony Oller (21) and Malcolm Kelly (21). The group offers a vibrant mix of pop, hip-hop and R&B, crafted in an undeniably organic way. The name MKTO not only represents their combined initials (Malcolm Kelley, Tony Oller), but something more. It also stands for what our album kind of is: Mist Kids and Total Outcastsjust like the kids we were in high school. Both accomplished adolescent actors, (Ollers credits include starring in the Disney series As The Bell Rings as well as the movie Beneath The Darkness, while Kelley had major roles on ABCs hit show LOST as well as in the lm Antwone Fisher), the two rst met while lming Gigantic, in 2010. Shortly thereafter they began making music together and caught the attention of powerhouse songwriters Emanuel Kiriakou and Evan Bogart (Beyonc, Rihanna, Ne-Yo, Jason Jason Derulo). The songwriting pair is now executive producing MKTOs forthcoming debut album. After signing to Columbia Records, the duos debut single Thank You hit Top 40 radio in the US this spring and is triple platinum in Australia, with the music video amazing over 4 million views.
