The document summarizes the key changes from the DIN 6914/15/16 standards to the new EN 14399 standards for high tensile fastening sets. It notes that old galvanized components can still be used until 2011 for downward compatibility. The new standards require CE marking on packaging and components. While old DIN components cannot be newly manufactured after 2007, they can still be used on sites until 2011 if conditions are met. EN 14399 sets can replace DIN sets but not vice versa due to technical differences in tightening characteristics defined by new k-classes.

from DIN 6914/15/16 to EN 14399 (High Tensile Fastening Sets)
Downward Compatibility Old hot-dip galvanized set components may be replaced by new ones until, at least, 2011. New Product Marking High tensile set components according to EN 14399-4 and -6 show the CE mark. New Labeling The labels on the packages of high tensile set components according to EN 14399-4 and EN 14399-6 give information regarding tightening instructions and show the CE mark. Stock according to: EN 14399-4/6 may be used on site regarding to: DIN 6914/15/16 (new) EN 14399-4/6 (old) DIN 6914/15/16 (new) EN 14399-4/6 (old) DIN 6914/15/16 ONE W AY Schedule for Change-Over from DIN-Standard to EN-Standard Coexisting until end of September 2007 both standards DIN 6914/15/16 and EN 14399-4/6 were valid simultaneously. After that date manufacturers were no longer allowed to produce parts according to DIN 6914/15/16. Subject to certain conditions, however, high tensile set components according to DIN 6914/15/16 may still be used until, at least, 2011. High tensile t bolts are standardized as EN 14399-8 since March 2008. One-Way Replaceability of Set Components If EN 14399-4/6 sets are required then they must also be used. If, however, hot-dip galvanized DIN 6914/15/16 sets are required, components of these may be replaced by components of EN 14399-4/6 sets, provided that both are from the same manufacturer. For technical reasons set com- ponents as processed of either standard must by no means be replaced by the other standard. Taper Washers Parts according to DIN 6917 or DIN 6918 will remain without an EN standardization. Friction and Tightening Characteristics Friction characteristics according to EN 14399 are described in k-classes. K-classes are dened by the k-factor resulting from the ratio of tightening torque, thread dimension and preload force (k = M / d / F). For FRIEDBERG high tensile sets the k-class K1 applies. K1 is set as 0,10 k 0,16 for both the hot-dip galvanized sets and sets as processed alike. As this implies a technical change as compared to the former version of fastening sets as processed, those set components of old and new standard must not be interchanged. Note: Higher tightening torque still applies to fastening sets as processed according to DIN 6914/15/16.
