Internship Criteria

- Students must be enrolled full-time at one of the ACI member colleges as a sophomore, junior or senior - Students must be enrolled in a liberal arts major, NOT majoring in business, management, or its equivalent - Students must be recommended by the students academic advisor. - Students must be able to provide their own transportation to the work site. - Students must have no other job or academic responsibilities (such as a research project) for the summer - Students must be a responsible ambassador to the community for their college - Student must be in an un-paid, full-time, summer internship with for-profit business Interested students will submit an application packet which will include: a. Completed online application (see link below) 0 b. One-page statement on why they should be selected to receive the grant c. Resume d. Grade report to confirm their GPA e. Academic adviser reference

Summer 2014 The ACI-Kemper Foundation Liberal Arts in Business Internship Program
Available to all Liberal Arts students of Associated College of Illinois member colleges. The goal is to grow the number of Liberal Arts students who better understand themselves and the business world, as well as their potential place in it.

Fifteen (15) $3,000.00 grants will be awarded to students working and learning in an unpaid, full-time, 8-10 week summer internships with businesses. These workplace experiences will be supplemented with an online business course containing a career exploration module to help students better understand how the insurance business functions. The "Fundamentals of Business" course to be completed by each student will consist of six segments, each focusing on a different functional area in a business, including: - the roles and responsibilities of people within that area - basic background information on business theory - vocabulary one is likely to encounter when dealing with departments within that functional area. Each segment will include 1-2, 10-20 minute videos with downloadable notes and supplemental reading lists. An additional Career Exploration module will focus solely on the insurance industry.

Application packets must be submitted no later than May 2, 2014. A decision will be made and the student will be notified no later than May 30, 2014.

Students will also submit a final online evaluation, which will include both quantitative and qualitative measures. The employer will also evaluate the student and share their feedback with them and with ACI.
