Crop Care Formulary Guide

The global crop protection market saw an increase of 18% in value terms during 2011, with estimates for 2012 and beyond showing continued growth. Future crop prices will remain strong due to the continuing increase in demand for food from a growing population, in a world where the amount of arable land is shrinking. In 2000 the global population was 6 billion and available arable land equated to 2000 sqm per person, however, it is estimated that by 2020 the global population will reach 7.5 billion and the amount of land per person will reduce to 1800 sqm. Optimum crop protection is delivered from optimised formulations. This guide demonstrates how todays formulator can utilise Croda ingredients to realise the full potential of their active ingredients, thereby enhancing the efficacy and safety of their formulations. The formulary also addresses the stability challenges that complex combinations of actives can bring and demonstrates how Crodas intelligent surfactant technology can be employed to overcome these challenges. To find out more about the different formulation types covered in this guide, visit our website www.croda.com/cropcare and look out for our Formulators Toolbox Watch out for the gold star logo which highlights Crodas Power Products, so called as they show outstanding performance in their recommended applications. Why not request a sample for your own evaluation? Where you see the Cold Process logo, this formulation can be prepared without the need for heating.

Functionality %w/w g/L Appearance: Red, free-flowing liquid pH (CIPAC MT 75): 7.84 (28 days, 40C) Viscosity: 340 cP (24 h) & 640 cP (40C 3 weeks), Brookfield 100 rpm, Spindle RV06 Stability: No separation (28 days, room temp. & 40 C) Suspensibility (CIPAC MT 161): 84%

Oil Dispersions (OD)

An oil dispersion is formed when a solid active ingredient is dispersed in the oil phase, making it especially suitable for water-sensitive or non-soluble active ingredients

Circulate the oil in the mill and add the oil structurant gradually. Mill for 5 minutes. Add the structurant activator and mill for a further 30 minutes. 2. Premix Phase B ingredients with low shear mixing. Add to mill base and circulate for 15 minutes.

Extruded Granules (WDG)

Extruded granules are formulations consisting of an active ingredient mixed with an inert ingredient (a carrier) such as marble chips or clay, to form a granule. They provide a system of delivering both liquid and solid active ingredients to a specific organism
Product Atrazine 90% (Herbicide) w/w Active Atlox Metasperse 550S1 Multiwet MO-85P1 Kaolin Clay Suppliers: 1. Croda Method 1. Formulation components were weighed directly into a Waring Blender jar and mixed until uniform 2. The blended formulation was then passed through a Retsch ZM100 Centrifuge Mill equipped with a 0.12 mm screen, rotating at 18000 rpm 3. Water was uniformly added to the wettable powder using a Hobart mixer until the powder was of the consistency of bread dough 4. The powder was passed through a LCI KAR-75 benchtop granulator (basket extruder) equipped with a 1.0 mm screen opening 5. The extruded granules were dried overnight at 50 C The performance of water dispersible granules were evaluated for suspensibility (CIPAC MT 168) and dispersibilty (CIPAC MT 174) following standard procedures. The suspensibilty of the granule formulations was observed after initial preparation and following storage for at least 28 days at room temperature and at 54 C. The dispersibility evaluations were carried out after storage of the granules for 28 days at 54C. Atrazine Initial Suspensibility (CIPAC MT 168) Disintegration (CIPAC MT 174)
