Primary Objective(s) The Community Organiser Intern will assist the Western Australia Community Organiser (CO) to build a small group of volunteers to organise key human rights events being held in Western Australia in the first half of 2014. This will involve collaborative and independent event planning and management under supervision of the Community Organiser; arranging logistics such as booking venues, event promotion and organising volunteer rosters; working with Convenors of some Western Australian Amnesty Groups; as well as communicating with external organisations. The role may also involve the following works: Mapping key electorates. Mapping partnership opportunities in line with specific campaigns. Planning for the development and growth of groups. Reporting Relationship This position reports directly to the Community Organiser. Materials and administration support is provided by the Activism Support Coordinator. Amnesty International Australia Team Key Tasks Working with the Community Organiser and other Interns and volunteers to plan and deliver events. Liaising with WA Action Groups and the State Branch Committee, to pass on information and coordinate participation. Liaising with local organisations on events and basic campaign information. Being familiar with Amnesty International Australia campaigns.

Coordinating event promotion. Undertaking mapping exercise. Working with the Social Media Intern to coordinate social media promotion and follow-up from the event. Coordinating follow-up with parliamentarians and other key partner organisations.

Media and Communications Coordinator. External Locally-based community organisations and human rights organisations. Local councils. Festival organisers. Parliamentary contacts. Practical and relevant experience working in the regional office of a large international human rights organization. Increased understanding of international human rights issues and campaigns.
