Demo:
1. Open Part Off and Grooving.prt in NX. 2. Click Create Operation. 3. Select turning in the Type list. 4. Select Part Off . 5. Specify the following: Program: Tool: Geometry: Method: 6. Click OK. The Part Off strategy is new and is the default for PARTOFF operations. 1234 UGT0114_001 CONTAINMENT LATHE_GROOVE

In the Path Settings section of the dialog box, Part Off Position allows you to determine where to position the tool path along the spindle. Automatic determines the tool path position as the left or right most position relating to the IPW.

In this example, when using Automatic, the Angle from XC should be set to 0.0000 so the system looks for the first appropriate cut off position from the left.

7. Click Generate.

8. Click Verify. 9. Click 2D Material Removal. 10. Slow down the Animation Speed, and click Play. 11. Zoom in on the part and notice that it has not been completely separated.

12. Click OK in the Tool Path Visualization dialog box. Depth provides a list of options that allows you to extend or shorten the cut.

The Divide option uses the IPW to determine the cut depth. Extend Distance allows you to specify a positive or negative value to lengthen or shorten the cut. 13. Select Divide from the Depth list. 14. Key in 1.0000 in the Extend Distance box. 15. Click Generate.

16. Click Verify and click Step several times to see how the tool cuts beyond the IPW to completely separate the part.

17. Click OK in the Tool Path Visualization dialog box. When Depth is set to Stock, the Distance value defines the cut depth measured from the centerline or the inside wall of the IPW. The Stock value must be positive.

When Depth is set to Distance, the Radius value must be greater than or equal to zero.

Clean first Wall and Clean Both Walls are applicable only when both sides of the part clamped. These options use an Extend Distance value, like Divide.

18. Click Feeds and Speeds. The Part Off Feed Rates section of this dialog box is new.

The Decelerate and Length options work in much the same way for Part Off operations as they currently do for linear roughing operations (i.e. Linear Zig). Decelerate determines the cutting feed rate of the tool prior to and at the time of part separation. Length is measured from the end of the cut. 19. Type 25.0000 in the Decelerate box and be sure %Cut is displayed in the list. 20. Type 10.0000 in the Length box and be sure % is displayed in the list. This will cause the cutting feed rate to slow down to 25% of the current cutting feed rate for the last 10% of the cutting path.

21. Click OK. 22. Click Generate. Specify allows you to specify a point for the part off position. 23. In the Path Settings section of the dialog box, select Specify from the Part Off Position list.

24. Next to Specify Point, select Point Dialog . 25. Select Arc/Ellipse/Sphere Center from the Type list.

26. Select the end of the part.

27. Click OK in the Point dialog box. 28. Click Generate. 29. Notice that the tool violates the part.

This can be fixed by changing the Tracking Point on the tool. 30. In the Tool section of the Partoff dialog box, click Edit/Display. 31. In the Parting Tool Right dialog box, select the Tracking tab. 32. Select 2 from the Radius ID list. 33. Click YES in the Tracking Point dialog box. 34. Select P4 from the P Number list. 35. Click YES in the Tracking Point dialog box. This positions the tracking point at the lower right corner of the parting tool.

36. Click OK in the Parting Tool Right dialog box. 37. Click Generate. 38. Click Verify. 39. Click 2D Material Removal. 8

40. Slow down the Animation Speed, and click Play.

41. Click OK in the Tool Path Visualization dialog box.

Corner options for Part Off operations

For Part Off operations, Groove Corners and Relief Plunge found on the Corners tab of the Cutting Parameters dialog box are new.

You will use the Corners option to clean the corner. 42. Click Cutting Parameters. 43. Choose the Corners tab. 44. Select Break from the Corners list. 45. Type 1.000 in the Distance box.

46. Click OK. 47. Click Non Cutting Moves. 48. Choose the Departure tab. 9

49. In the Motion to Return Point /Clearance Plane section of the dialog box, select RadialAxial from the Motion Type list. 50. Click OK. 51. Click Generate.

You will create a relief plunge of a specific depth offset a specified distance from the part. 52. Click Cutting Parameters. 53. Choose the Corners tab. 54. Select Depth from the Relief Plunge list. 55. Type 35.000 in the Distance box. 56. Type 2.000 in the Offset box.

57. Click OK. 58. Click Generate. 59. Click Verify. 60. Click 2D Material Removal. 61. Slow down the Animation Speed, and click Play.

62. Click OK in the Tool Path Visualization dialog box. 63. Click OK to complete the operation. Close the part without saving. 10
