JOB DESCRIPTION

Approved Title: Third Officer DEFU: 154 I Organization Summary Reports to Staff Captain. II Purpose of the Position

In charge of navigational watch at sea and in port watch on the Bridge. III Major Functions and responsibilities 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. 13. 14. Perform watch keeper duties in accordance with the BRMM. Assist in testing and recording of maintenance of safety and lifesaving equipment. In charge of boat drills for passengers and crew. Responsible for the instruction of proper use of lifesaving equipment. Check and maintain Deck Log Book. Supervises and participates in mooring operations, during anchoring, and berthing operations. Inventory control and requisition administration. Overtime administration. Security duty at gangways and shore. Keep meteorological records. Supervise the lowering and preparing of tender platform. Supervise the lowering and heaving procedures of tenders. Oversight of the Emergency Mustering Program Other duties as assigned by the Staff Captain.

IV Supervision received Close supervision Work is reviewed at several steps along the way for accuracy by his direct supervisors, which include the 1st and 2nd Officer.

V Problem solving and decision making Safety comes always first and the 3rd Officer makes effective decisions during his work and reports all his finding to his direct supervisor. The position requires basic engineering problem solving skills. An ability to demonstrate efficient decision making and communicates effective with their supervisor is also needed.

VI Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The Third Officer has received the following knowledge, skills and training: License and/or schooling HBO or MBO Maritime Officer (Dutch) or OOW certification (British) Navigational Officer of the Watch COC Experience 2-5 years experience on deep sea trade vessels preferred and sailed as 2nd Officer or 3rd Officer Motivating attitude and ability to coach and mentor team members reporting to this function Physical demands For the safety of yourself and others on board certain physical abilities are expected to be maintained. Must be able to bend, climb, perform repetitive motion, and repetitively heavy lift. Must be able to work varied shifts which can average up to 12 hours per day everyday while on board. Must maintain physical fitness to perform tasks associated with job. VII Documents and Training required upon boarding Documents needed prior to boarding: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Bridge Resource Management (BRM) 5. Global Maritime Distress Safety System GMDSS/MARCON-A 6. STCW Advanced Firefighting 7. STCW Crisis Management & Human Behavior (CMHB) 8. STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (PSCRB) 9. ECDIS 10. STCW Limited Medical Care 11. Automated Radar Plotting Aids (ARPA) Other trainings provided as per Training Matrix.
