OR MODELS

1. Earth Ltd has two products Sun & Moon. To produce one unit of Sun , two units of material X and four units of material Y are required. To produce one unit of Moon, 3 units of material X and one unit of material Y are required. As the raw material X is in short supply, not more than 16 units of X can be used. At least 16 units of material Y must be used in order to meet the committed sales of Sun and Moon. Cost per unit of material X and material Y are Rs. 2.50 and Rs.25 respectively. You are required to formulate the mathematical model and solve it for minimum cost graphically. Ans: Minimum Z =10; when x1 = 4 & x2 = 0 2. A firm can produce three types of clothes A, B and C. Three kinds of wool are required for it they are Red, Green and Blue wool. One unit of type A needs 2 yards of Red wool, 3 yards of blue wool. One unit of B needs 5 yards of green wool 4 yards of blue wool. One unit of C needs, 3 yards of red wool, 2 yards of green wool, 2 yards of blue wool. The cost of producing one unit of type A is Rs.3, type B is Rs. 5 and type C is Rs. 4. Formulate the mathematical model for the problem. 3. A firm produces two types of products A & B and sells them at a profit of Rs. 2000 on type A and Rs.300 on type B. Each product is processed on two machines G & H. Type A requires one minute of processing time on G and two minutes of processing time on H. Type B requires one minute of processing time on G and one minute of processing time on H. The machine G is available for not more than 6 hours and 40 minutes, while H is available for 10 hours during any working day. Formulate the problem as an LPP and find how many products of each type should the firm produce each day in order to get maximum profit. Ans: Maximum profit Z = 6,00,000; When x1 (A) =300 and x2 (B) = 0 4. A diet for a sick person must contain at least 400 units of vitamin , 50 units of minerals and 1400 units of calories. Two foods A & B are available at a cost of Rs. 40 and Rs. 30 per unit respectively. One unit of A contains 200 units of vitamins, 1 unit of minerals, and 40 units of calories. One unit of B contains 100 units of vitamins, 2 units of minerals, and 40 units of calories. a. Express the problem in LPP b. Solve them graphically Ans: Minimum cost Z = 1050; when x1 (A) = 0 & x2 (B) = 35 5. Evening shift doctors in a government hospital work for 5 consecutive days and 2 consecutive days off. Their 5 days of work can start on any day of a week and their schedule rotates indefinitely. The hospital requires following minimum number of doctors in the given days Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday 35 55 60 50 60 50 45 Not more than 40 doctors can start their five working days on the same day.
