Looking closely at your genre, please describe the situation and fill in the chart based on the appeals and structure of your genre samples. BE VERY SPECIFIC. Very close analysis is the name of the game for this paper. In other words, you might cite pages where possible; describe visually what the printed pages look like, etc. 1. 2. 3. What is your genre? Combined Features that occur across all samples Genre Features All have different inspirations and unique ideas from their fashion trends. Depending on the designer him/herself, is what to make of the business and talent. Writers have the ability to get close to the designer as fans cannot, making them ask questions the readers/fans want to know about and get their attention. All categorizes as a interview to open up the designer Majorly of designers, communicate through Q&A interviews.

Speculate on what these rhetorical features can tell us about the situation? Every designer has something different about their methods of fashion. From the fabric to their beginning of how it all started, no one is the same. Neither is fashion the same, it changes just like the seasons. Designers have their own way of language through the art of fashion. They make themselves stand out different from the rest to be recognized. The writer language to the designer is like interviewing them for a job, a job to seek readers that are interested in them. At the same time, the designer needs to be careful what is being revealed. They cant show the latest fashion stretches to the public for the fact of someone else stealing their work. This type of structure of communicate helps the writer aim for what to talk about and mention to the public, without any confusion. Its simple for readers to read the trends and information about the designer. Yet, leaves out the challenging questions that the designers cant answer to the public. Leaving the designs/patterns of the stretches to the designers and their fashion team themselves.

*This handout is a modified version of one used by Dr. Angela Rounsaville

Part one: Participation. Who is invited to speak or interact with the text? - The one who is invited to interview the designers is someone with a well-known repetition. Not a whole lot of designers will let anyone interview them or talk to them, because of the fact someone could steal their work by putting them on the spot. Yet, designers will love to get the publicly, its like free advertising in a way. Interaction is done by anything that is willing to listen or learn about the designers, designer trends, etc. Interaction would be the readers that would buy the Fashion Issue magazine to just read what is in. As other designers will purchase the fashion magazines to see to gossip of their competition. Who is able to access (have access to-get the document), read, and understand the text? - Anyone is able to access these interviews and articles about these designers. Its a simple Q&A interview to open up the designers and express themselves to the public without releasing anything that may be copy-write or stolen their ideas of their next big one style. Questions relating to their trends, passion, their story on how they got here, random facts, or just what inspire them to do what they do as fashion designers. Who is NOT able to access the document? - The only document that isnt accessible to the public is the black book, or in modern day terms stretch book. This book contains every little/big idea for their next design. If someone was to access the black book, they could easily steal their design and call it theirs. That is they know how to read it correctly, too. Designers have a different language of communicate through their designs/patterns/themes/etc. Plus the fashion glossary isnt used like our everyday slang either. Why might have access but not understand it? - There are many fashion terms that are used in magazines, internet, and other sources about fashion trends that most people are unaware of the meaning. There are measurements, value of the fabric, fashion stretches, and images along with inspiration pinnotes, etc. that designers use that they may look like riff-raff or pictures to some people. But, to designers its a way of art and communication. What can you tell about power dynamics from this text? - Its a different social exchange from the designers to designer or designer to peers. Designer to designer knows the secret terms that are behind the language of fashion. Designer to peers knows what the readers want to hear, and showing them some images. Not exactly the behind the scenes though.

What do the answers to these questions tell you about the discourse community? - Fashion Designing like many other careers, have a different way of communication within the discourse community. Its a way to interact around different positions of people, whether its a reporter interviewing a designer to the designers inspiriting images to create the next trend of fashion. The discourse community may seem broad, but its trap in a world of vibrant colors of fabric and black ash pencils. Fashion designing is what communicates around the globe, and the best part it doesnt necessarily need words of action. The fashion designing is the fashion itself that communicates to the designers in the discourse community.

Part two: Definitions. Youll need to frame your essay with a definition or discussion of genre. In this paragraph or paragraphs, youll say to the reader, this is the definition of genre I am working with. Remember quote sandwiches? Build one (yum) around a definition of genre that you like from one of our readings or in-class lectures. Explain why you are defining genre the way you are defining it.

Fashion designing has its own genre; its the language of art towards fashion. Its the different way of communication from a simple view of a stretch book along with many fashion terms that are used in the field. Its the understanding of knowledge of every aspect of creating/designing fresh new images that reveal the style of the seasons.
