Formative Assessments: Students will be working independently and in small groups, and as they do, I will be observing them

continually, checking for understanding, participation and engagement. With the 2 strategies I will be checking for understanding by frequent quick checks, thumbs up thumbs down. I will also have them turn in their journals where most of the strategy work is being done to be sure. I will also be doing an exit card where students can state what they want to know with any questions. The same thing will be done with paper toss, where students write down questions and toss them to the middle of the room. I can look at these questions and respond to them on the group or the whole. The students will be asked to put the group name not their name so it is completely anonymous. Summative Assessments: The presentation slides will be evaluated by the rubric below. The student will see this rubric. I will also assess by an open note quiz. They students can use any information they have noted during the presentations and their own inquiry. The quiz will be one specific question. Compare and contrast your region to one other region. I want the students to talk about the culture of life, how they lived, what they ate, how they traveled.
