Water is the most abundant liquid on earth.

It plays a vital role and is essential for the survival of every living creature. Nowadays, people are dealing with issues about water contamination brought by different circumstances. All water contains natural contaminants, particularly inorganic contaminants. Inorganic contaminants such as arsenic, mercury, and asbestos can cause different kinds of serious diseases if it is ingested in our body through drinking water. Furthermore, there are other contaminants that can cause more severe effects in our body. Wastes from industrial premises, chemicals present in insecticides, pesticides and fertilizers, and metal such as lead present on our water pipings are subsequently dispersed throughout the aquatic environment, natural waters and drinking water supplies. Although there are numerous ways to filtrate these contaminants like screening, filtration and centrifugation, microand ultra-filtration, crystallization, sedimentation and gravity separation, flotation, precipitation, coagulation, oxidation, solvent extraction, evaporation, distillation, reverse osmosis, ion exchange, electro dialysis, electrolysis, and adsorption, these methods cost quite a fortune. People often consider and mistaken a banana peel as a junk and of no importance. But if we go beyond, banana peels are very significant than previously thought. There are lots of nutrients and minerals that can be derived from it. Banana peels contain essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, fibers and other compounds that have a variety of benefits. These different substances present in them make banana peel an aid for different health problems. Moreover, a banana peel (Musa acuminate), the biochemical components include cellulose, hemicellulose, chlorophyll pigments, and pectin substances, which contain galacturonic acid, arabinose, galactose, and rhamnose. Galacturonic acids cause the pectin to strongly bind to the metal ions because of the carboxyl functions of the sugar. Compounds in banana peels contain atoms of nitrogen, sulfur and organic compounds such as carboxylic acids. These acids are charged such that their negatively charged electron pairs are exposed, meaning they can bind with metals in the water that usually have a positive charge. Cellulose also allows heavy metals to bind. These characteristics make a banana peel a potential natural water purifying agent. The study will focus on the potential of banana peel to absorb metals contaminants on tap water to make it potable water. This will also test which specie of banana is most suitable to use. At the end of this research, the researchers aim to produce a low-cost, readily available yet efficient water purifying method. It will serve as a remedy especially for those communities who have problems with contaminated water and cannot afford to purchase such a costly purifier. Moreover, the increasing issues of health problems would be reduced and the possibility of producing a safe and clean drinking water can be attained.
