August 22, 2013 Dear Malcom; If you were to see my face on the back of a milk carton, it would probably

be accompanied by a description to the likes of female, late 18s, red hair, blue eyes, a good helping of freckles, possibly accompanied by animal friends, responds to Morgan, grade A, pasteurized. They wouldnt even have to shade the carton any because milk and I share a similar shade of paleness. But I, as most people and particularly realtors do, like to think that there is more to a thing than you might notice at first glance. So what that milk carton wont tell you is that I am an artist, a nature-lover, and a classic rock enthusiast. If you have your star charts handy, Im a Sagittarius and I was born in the Year of the Dog. I consider myself a gender equalatist, but sometimes that calls for me to be a feminist, so sometimes I am a feminist, but not a scary one. Also I like to read a lot, but I keep my books in rainbow-order, so that judge a book by its cover metaphor just doesnt apply to me. Im a freshman here at UNCC, but completely familiar with the area. This is due to the fact that Ive lived in the same house on the outskirts of Charlotte for my entire lifespan, and I still live there while I commute back and forth to campus every Monday through Thursday. I actually really enjoy where I live; Im not typically keen on suburbia, but my neighbors are the greatest lot Ive ever met. Weve all grown up together and share that general closeness which means you could walk into their house without knocking and they wouldnt be at all surprised to find you standing in their kitchen. We play an abundance of video games, start cool projects that we find on YouTube, and find new places to eat now that we can drive and are no longer limited to biking to the Wendys a mile away. So although I live in Charlotte, the CabarrusAnd here we made a giant bubble machine! Mecklenburg line is about a hundred meters or so down the road and this has been an important factor in my life because it meant that I got to attend all the nice posh public schools in Harrisburg, a town that is basically the anthem of Our State magazine. I participated in lots of activities in high school, which I would like to attribute in part to the YOLO Movement. It made sense to me that I should try to participate in new opportunities whenever possible in order to become more in tune to my own likings and passions. Mostly, I think I wanted to replace the feeling of being undefined with confidence in my own opinions and character. So with that in mind, I signed up for every extracurricular I could swing, from art club to volunteering to running Cross Country, and this made for some really great stories and experiences that eventually pointed me in the direction of the

healthcare field, which is why I am majoring in pre-biology this Fall. Im the middle child in a family of five which otherwise consists of two parents, a big brother, and a little brother. We also have a Siberian husky named Kyra and three and a half cats, Jeepers, Chloe, Sterling, and Stripes. (Stripes is a complete cat, but I only have partial custody of her because she technically belongs to the neighbors.) My parents moved to Charlotte the year prior to my birth from the sticks of Pennsylvania, where there are likely more deer than people. We take annual car rides back there, where we usually stay at my grandmas house in Marienville, a place which is too small to call a town and is actually just a census designated place at the edge of the Alleghany National Forest. I like to think that Marienville is nice in the way that old quilts are nice. Everything and everyone is really worn down, but theres something comforting to the way it feels there. My grandma is the lead of a kitchen band in which all the old folks make musical instruments out of their 60s Tupperware and their serving spoons and they gather around and play old folk songs. Im also fond of the fact that Marienvilles residents call their Dollar General store The Macys. Im excited to come to class this semester to learn all there is to learn. It wasnt until I received all the countless syllabuses that I realized how writing-intensive college is. Thank you for reading all I had to rant about and Ill see you on Monday! Sincerely, Morgan Chandler
