Proclamation TIB Composition & Reflection with Peer Review Two

Jasmine Averette Eng 1101 November 17, 2013 Draft There are many things to believe in such as Santa Claus, the tooth fairy or the Easter bunny but for me to believe in something is deeper than all of those things. My belief is that I believe that everyone on this planet is equal. You might wonder why I believe, considering that things happen every day that test this such as bullying, racism, or discrimination. Despite all of these things that do occur I still believe this because in my eyes we are all individuals, but no one is greater than the next person. Everyone on this planet is born and everyone on this planet must die as harsh as it sounds. We all eat, we all sleep, and we all deal with our natural routines in life. As I watch people around me every day, I realize more and more how we are much alike no matter how different we look, or how different we sound. This belief is built off the numerous relationships that I have created with others in my lifetime. I observe that we talk to one another; I observe that we all have emotions and I observe that we are all human beings looking for our purpose. We all go through a struggle, and we all deal with what life throws us whether its in a great way or a bad way but its through actions. Before I was even born this belief was challenged on numerous occasions. Slavery and the Halocaust are prime examples of that. Even segregation displays unequal treatment people had to face during those times. Today bullying is a big deal, and a lot of people are bullying others because of sexual orientation or appearance. This is a sign of others treating others differently and not equally as they

would treat the next person because of their harsh opinions on that person. Personally I believe bullying is wrong because of the emotional damage it can leave someone. I always treat people the same because of my belief and never let the hype or others influence on how I should treat someone else. This belief may seem as if its a typical pageant girl answer to a question but truth be told Ive always felt this way ever since I was young. It really breaks my heart when others talk about someone because they dont fit their standards and start to treat them like their nothing. I was a victim of bullying in high school and all I thought about when I was being made fun of was what makes that person better than me? Arent we all on this earth together?

Despite all of these things that do occur I still believe this because in my eyes we are all individuals, but no one is greater than the next person. Everyone on this planet is born and everyone on this planet must die as harsh as it sounds. We all eat, we all sleep, and we all deal with our natural routines in life. As I watch people around me every single day, I realize more and more how we are much alike despite how different we look or how different we sound. This belief is built off the numerous relationships that I have created with others in my lifetime thus far. I observe the way we talk to one another; I observe that we all have emotions and I observe that we are all human beings looking for our purpose. We all go through a struggle, and we all deal with what life throws us. Before I was even born this belief was challenged on numerous occasions. Slavery and the Holocaust are prime examples of that. Segregation also displays the unequal treatment people had to face during those times. Today bullying is a big deal and a lot of people are bullying others because of sexual orientation or appearance just to name a few examples. This is a sign of others treating their peers differently because of their harsh opinions on that person. Personally I believe bullying is wrong because of the emotional damage it can leave someone. I always treat people the same due to my belief

and never let others influence me on how I should treat someone else because I know how it feels to be treated differently based off of someones opinion. Status, money, or power can play a big role in why some people may think they are better than others. A lot of children want to be singers, actors, or dancers but most of all famous. I think of the word celebrity and wonder why theres a status to when it comes reaching that certain level of fame. Personally, I feel if someone is doing something they want to such as becoming an entertainer then why should they be praised? It just makes others feel low about themselves who struggle to pay their rent making 7.25 an hour in comparison to someone who makes 100 million a year. Im not saying every celebrity feels as if they are better than others, but I am saying due to their status they have people who idolize them and look up to them as a higher form rather than comparing them to the average person. I used to think of myself as being untouchable. I never thought things that happen to other people, would happen to me. Now I realize this isnt so true. Im as equal as everyone else on this planet and Im not exempt from anything. I was robbed about a month ago in broad daylight in front of a bus by someone who I thought wanted to know the time. It turns out he did not even care about what time it was, but what type of phone I had. People get robbed every day, and that day I was one of those people. That was an experience that really changed my perspective on the world, and just how fragile people can be.

Over time I do not believe that my belief will alter at all. This is a belief that I strongly believe in and will continue to believe in until the day I die. I hope a lot more people can see the world like I do because I think it could really make it more of a peaceful place to live on.

English 1101, Proclamation (TIB) Reflection Jasmine B Averette Please provide a short response to each following question or statement. 1. What is your opinion of the readings used in the projects lead -up? Please offer specific feedback on readings, with specific details (TIB, Arrival, videos...). Yes, I truly want to know what you think. Scarey, aint it? I really enjoyed the readings; mostly the arrival and when the little boy talked about the 10 things he believed in. I think they really helped me look inside of myself to find what I believe in and greatly inspired me.

2. What is your opinion of the tasks used in preparing for the major project? Which was most helpful and why? Which was least and why? Again, I want honest responses, but I want actual details (and also not what you think I want to hear). It was a lot, I believe the task that we had to answer questions to help us create an outline for our belief was the most helpful. I believe the group task with groups beliefs were the least helpful, but the most interesting.

3. Influence me as to what to focus most upon during grading: what do you want weighed most in your favor as I grade your project? Why? (What should I concentrate most upon?) Use specifics for focus, and specific reasons! You should focus on how much I improved on my polished draft from my draft. I listened to my peers based off the peer review and added more.

4. Influence me further as to what to focus upon during grading: what do you want weighed least in your favor as I grade your project? Why? (What should I try to ignore, essentially?) Ditto! The way I word my writing, it sometimes can get a little confusing to others but I promise it will make sense.

5. Based upon what you have been assigned, verses what you have completed, what grade does your work justify? Why? I think I deserve the best grade I can possibly get because I really worked hard on my Belief essay. I poured my heart and soul into this.

* What is your belief? Everyone is equal. Even if we all look different, talk different or act different everyone is equal. * Why do you hold this belief? I hold the belief that everyone is equal because despite the struggles that people may face on a day to day basis with racism, or discrimination everyone is on this earth breathing, and living and we all die as harsh as it sounds. We all go through this life and the experiences it brings us. We all have our destiny, but in the end no one is better than the next person. * Who has influenced this belief? Society has influence my belief, by just observing everything and everyone. Seeing everyone just experience life as the next person. * Is this belief centered in a place, or a relationship? Its more so centered in relationships. Relationships with other people that I find myself meeting influence why I feel this way. * How has the place or relationship set up or altered your belief? These relationships set up my beliefs because I see how people act. To me we all do the same things, and were all in this daily routine until we pass. * How is this belief manifested in your daily life? This belief allows me as a person to treat everyone the same way. I never treat anyone better than the next person. * When has this belief been challenged or tested? This belief has been challenged before I was even born due to slavery, the holocaust, and segregation. These events are examples of people not being treated equally. In another way currently theres bullying, and that plays a big role in people not being treated equally. Also people being judgmental of others play a role in challenging my belief. * Do you expect that your belief will evolve or change over time?

I dont think my belief will evolve or change over time.
