Grade Level: 10 Overview

Subject: ELA Curriculum Objectives

Duration: 4-5 Classes

The student will look a little more in depth to the artifacts. The artifacts hold an important piece to that individuals life and the students will have to take that into consideration

1.2- develop ideas by asking relevant questions and responding thoughtfully. 7.1- examine the different aspects of text that contribute to meaning and effect. 9.1- demonstrate skills in constructing texts for various audiences and purposes.

Student Adaptations Materials Needed

Realizing what the characters possess in their artifacts, the teacher will bring in something that is important enough for them to have in an artifact to show the children an example of what they are doing. There will be a class discussion on artifacts and what could be important enough to hold on to Read the passage in Chapter 18 that shows the emotion of protection within Cassia and the disappointed emotion in Bram. Then discuss. The Students will complete this lesson on their own. They will have to search within their own possessions of something that they will have to keep if everything else were to be taken away. In the novel the artifact has to fit in their hand, but for this project, it has to be something that can be displayed in class. The item has to be accompanied by a write up, 1-2 pages, explaining the artifact and what it means to them. If the student is uncomfortable presenting, or has trouble writing etc. There will be a 1 on 1 presentation with the teacher and extra help for writing or a Speak and Type program will be provided for the student to speak to as the program copies it to the electronic screen.

The students will have a short 3-5 minute presentation on their artifact.

Well will go back to a discussion based class on the topics of artifacts and have the student looked at these objects in a different light. The Rubric will be developed as a class for this lesson, therefore all of the students and teacher are on the same page when it comes to what is expected.
