IECEP National Convention 2013: A Reaction Report The Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. conducted its 63 rd Annual General Membership Meeting last November 21-23,2013 attended by professional and licensed electronics engineers, students, and valued partners from all over the country. The three-day International Electronics Conference and Exposition held at SMX Convention Center Taguig City gave an insight to us soon-to-be ECEs on the importance this event is especially on career matters. Since it was our first time to make an appearance to a national gathering, we were astonished with the big people in the ECE profession and big groups of people we have encountered. Actually, the main reason of attending the event is to join, along with the pool of ECE students from different schools, the 2nd Student Summit on the second day. It is an affair tailor-made for us future engineers. The first topic discussed in the summit was the FDAS (Fire Detection and Alarm System) given by Engr. Luis T. Lina, President of LM Integrated Systems and Data Networking. The latest technologies and products on sensors (e.g. dual sensor smoke detectors) were concisely presented followed by a career and life motivation given to us graduating students. Then, Engr. Patrick Ochangco IV, Engineering Research Head of ABS-CBN, talked about the broadcast industry. It was only a brief discussion about broadcasting. Afterwards, Engr. George P. Tardio encouraged us students to consider working on the government sector and the good side of it. He discussed to us the Demand for Engineers in the Government Sector. Engr. Tardio is the president of Philippine Association of Government Electronic Engineers (PAGE). The summit continued in the afternoon with the topic Latest Updates and Status of the Telecom Industry. Mr. Ronald Ramos, an IT Specialist from SMART Communications and who happens to be the speaker has raised our awareness on the telecom industry of today. Also, he added the benefits of being a Telecoms engineer. This topic suits to me best because I want to pursue a career in Telecoms. After all the talks were given, the highlight of the summit probably was the chance to meet the new ECE Board of Examiners headed by the chairman Hon. Arnold L. Detalla together with his colleagues Hon. Herminio J. Orbe and Hon. Enrico Claro R. Delmoro as members. From there, they discussed about the new board examination to be imposed in their term and they

also entertain some questions from fellow inquisitive students. Lastly, the 34 th IECEP InterScholastic Quiz Show was also held that day as part of the summit. This is the part were the academically acclaimed students battled out for their respective schools. Undeniably, this is the most exceptional event I ever attended in my college life because this is where I met the big names in the profession like the board of examiners. Also, the prestige of attending this kind of event is commendable. Likewise, I was glad to see fresh faces of my fellow students from different school and was thinking of working with them in the near future as an Electronics Engineer.
