!his chapter of the ancient text attributed to "iddha Matsyendranath deals with the characteristics of the linga and discusses the flowers, centres or chakras within the body in the light of the #ogini $aula tradition. Chapter Three Devi said - Great Lord, I have questions concerning the characteristics of Kula, the Self, and consciousness chiefly. Be gracious, O Shankara ath ! " # $ Bhairava said - Listen %ith concentrated &ind to the characteristics of Kula. 'here there is &ind, there too are the senses, the sense o()ects and the (ody - these are *er&eated (y one+s o%n ,akti, one+s e&(odied (eing, and the -five. ele&ents. "/-0$ It is said that the *lace and inner *art of &editation is a clear understanding of *i1a. 2ll *roceeds fro& the letters -of the al*ha(et., and in this is voidness. "3$ Dearest, -in the *inda e4ist. the -cakras. of five lines, #5 lines, si4ty four *etals, the truly (eautiful #66 *etal -lotus. and the (eautiful thousand *etal lotus and a(ove this is a very (rilliant #6,666,666 *etal lotus. 2(ove the #6,666,666 *etal lotus is a 06,666,666 *etal lotus, each *ericar* of %hich is si&ilar to a fla&e. 2(ove this is the all enco&*assing, eternal, undivided, inde*endent, steady lotus- *ervading all, stainless. By its %ill -sveccha. it causes creation and dissolution. Both the ani&ate and inani&ate are dissolved in this linga. "7-#6$ It is the all-*ervading s*here, still, %ithout Kalas. It should (e understood that (eing lettered -i&*lies. ignorance of this, %hilst one %ho has co&e to kno% this is li(erated fro& the fetters. It is destitute of (oth &ind and non-&ind, free of &editation and dharana. 8learly it (esto%s all, is eternal, like an atasi flo%er, the divine essence having (oth colour and colourless, attained only (y kno%ledge, through (eing in the line of succession -*ara&*ara.. "##-#0$ Devi, the characteristics of the Kula Laksha have (een declared - that linga %hich is not &ade of %ood, stone, clay, )e%el, (rass, gold, iron, co**er, crystal, clay, tin, lead or co**er - %hich gives rise to the various (losso&ings of the red flo%ers, %orshi**ed (y all the %orlds. "#3-#7$ Devi, one should not concern oneself %ith the eighteen lokasastras such as adhyat&ika and so forth. 9ahdevi, this -sort of *reoccu*ation. is the cause of a *erson (eing a *ashu, devoid of kno%ledge. 2ll *eo*le on the *ath of s*iritual kno%ledge -divyas. should not associate %ith the ignorant, those on useless *aths, devoid of Kula kno%ledge. "#7-#:$ Brah&a and so forth, all the gods and asuras, the saintly, yakshas, gandharvas, siddhas, *lants, trees, insects, *lanets, sidereal constellations, stars and all the rest, all %hich is in the cos&os - either &oving or fi4ed, ele&ents and so forth, all &anifest fro& the centre of the (indu. / <his linga, the cause of (oth creation and dissolution, %orshi**ed (y siddhas, shining (y its o%n light, *ure, eternal, co&*letely i&&easura(le, is like the fla&e %hich is the fire -at the end of ti&e., like lightning in the sky. One (eco&es li(erated after kno%ing and *erceiving this (oon giving linga. "/#-//$ <his linga is eternally erect, a va)ra linga, and &y not (e destroyed (y raging fire, landslide, or torrent. " /0$ Devi, a Kaulika should %orshi* this to achieve the %ished for siddhi, e&*loying &ental flo%ers, s%eetly scented incense and so forth. "/3$ <he first flo%er is non-har&fulness, the second sense restraint, the third generosity, the fourth right dis*osition, the fifth co&*assion, and the si4th freedo& fro& cruelty. <he seventh flo%er is &editation, and the eighth flo%er is kno%ledge. Kno%ing these rules relating to flo%ers, one should %orshi* this &ental linga. "/7-/5$ 'orshi**ing this (ody linga, one &ay o(tain (oth li(eration and en)oy&ent. Devi, it is the linga giving siddhi, stationed in the (ody, steady and strong. 'hosoever should al%ays &editate on this &ental linga, for such a one is achieved the *re-e&inent and highest self kno%ledge. "/:-06$ <he inner &eaning of this, *laced in the (ody, (elongs to the Kula 2ga&a. 'hosoever takes the &eaning as *lacing -a linga. outside hi&self enters the arena of *ashus. "0#$ Devi, the inner &eaning of this kno%ledge has (een declared to you. One should never give it to the undevoted, (ut only to devoted *ersons. "0/$
