University at Buffalo Marching Band Performance Excellence Scholarship Information DRUMLINE

Performance based scholarships are available for participation in the University at Buffalo Athletic Bands. The range of scholarship award is $250.00-$750.00. Awards are based on talent and the needs of the Band. Applying for the Scholarship 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. You must be a registered student at the University at Buffalo You must complete the application and submit it to the Band no later than August 6th You must register for Band camp You must complete a Scholarship Audition during the opening weekend of Band Camp You will need to register for MUS 130- Marching Band for the Fall Semester- Please contact your academic advisor to ensure that you are registered.

WHAT DO I NEED AND HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP AUDITION? Sticks (taped)- You will need to provide your own sticks for the audition process. We use a Vic Firth signature series snare and tenor stick called the Ralph Hardimon. After auditions we will provide all members with new sticks. Metronome- Any working metronome is a must have for any percussionist and necessary for great practice at home. You can also find free online metronomes. If you are looking to buy a great model metronome for personal use we suggest the Dr. Beat series of metronomes. Practice Pad- Everyone should have a practice pad for practice at home and during rehearsals. Snare, tenor, and Bass drum pads can be found on the Vic Firth Website http://www.vicfirth.com/products/pads.php Binder- every Drumline member must provide a 2 3-ring binder for use during the season. The binder will be used to organize all material (including audition material) Practice time- Practice is essentially important for a successful audition! Technique- If you are auditioning on snare please be aware that we use traditional grip. Tenors and bass players will use match grip.

DRUMLINE SCHOLARSHIP AUDITION PROCESS Every student applying for a Scholarship must prepare the audition piece. The general audition piece is for snares, basses, and tenors. Bass drummers should prepare all parts in the bass line. The audition piece is named University at Buffalo- Audition 2010-2011 We will play through the material the first day of camp prior to the audition to unify technique and to get you accustomed to our drums. Individual Scholarship Auditions will begin at the start of the 2nd day (Sunday).
