Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Columbia, South Carolina

Dear Eastminster Family, Written in the first century A. D., Colossians touches on gratitude, a theme found throughout Scripture: Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, overflowing with thankfulness. Over a millennium and a half later, Henry Ward Beecher put his own words on the theme saying, Gratitude is the fairest blossom which springs from the soul. And in the twentieth century Thomas Merton wrote, For the grateful person knows that God is good, not by hearsay but by experience. And that is what makes all the difference. Especially for those of us who are on the receiving end of lifes greatest gift-- Gods unmerited love in Jesus Christ-- gratitude should overflow from deep within. And thankfulness should mark our lives, not only during the latter half of November, but every day. As we begin preparing for the birth of our Savior, I encourage you to open your heart, head, and hands in grateful response. Between December 9th and 19th you can step inside the door and join in our Lords work through St. Lawrence Place, the Circle of Giving, CHAMPS, or Transitions. In addition, join us for worship each Sunday; come make a Gingerbread house; experience the Living Nativity; or contribute to the Christmas Challenge. (See details inside.) Those are December opportunities to grow in gratitude, but dont stop there. Practice thankfulness in speaking and in serving, in giving and in receiving, year-round. Author G.K. Chesterton said, When it comes to life, the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude. May it be said of Christs body at Eastminster, they are a grateful and generous people. Gratefully, Brad With the Stock Market at an all-time high, some members are giving for Gods work through Eastminster while also avoiding capital gains taxes. You can give beyond your pledge or to fulfill a pledge. To make sure your gift is credited for 2013, please contact your brokerage firm as soon as possible and notify church Treasurer, Christy Rippy at crippy@ eastminsterpres.org.
