1. Introduction
iSalePoint is a complete Point Of Sale application. You dont have to spend time and money on your software. iSalePoint is an open source software available at www.sourceforge.net. iSalePoint uses MySQL database to store its data. In fact iSalePoint supports other databases. But it is not tested to a comfortable level. Using MySQL database with iSalePoint reduces the total cost. iSalePoint is simple to use and simple to configure. And it easy to setup too. Installation involves 3 steps 1. 2. 3. MySQL installation. Java installation. iSalePoint installation

2. MySQL Installation.
To download MySQL, goto Mysql website www.mysql.com. Download the mysql Community server from the following location http://www.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/, Select the option Windows (x86, 32/64-bit), MSI Installer Essentials Recommended. This is around 34MB. You will get a file with extension .msi. Once it is downloaded, go to the folder where it is downloaded. Run the program by double-clicking on msi file. This will start MySQL installation process. Follow the steps mentioned below for a standard configuration. MySQL installation is straightforward and almost all the places accept the default values and continue. Anyway here are the steps. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. Double click on the installer to start the installation process. Click Next button in the welcome screen. Select Typical (already selected), installation option and click Next button. In the summary screen click Install button to start installation Press Next button in the following screens till you reach Finish screen. In the Finish screen, select Configure MySQL Server now option and press Finish button. Now installer will MySQL server configuration wizard. Press the Next button in the installation wizard Select Detailed Configuration option and press Next button. Select Server Machine and press Next. Select Multifunctional Database option and press Next button. Next screen will show the options to select folder where MySQL data files will be stored. Default option will store the database in the installation folder. If you have enough disk space on the installation folder, leave the option as it is. If you are testing iSalePoint, you can leave the option as it is. Next screen should decide how many parallel connections are possible. If there are less than 20 iSlaePoint instances connecting to MySQL database, select the default option Decision Support (DSS)/OLAP. If not select the custom setting and set the maximum possible connections. Press Next. In the next Networking options screen, leave the default values and press Next screen. In next character set selection screen, leave the default options and click Next screen. In the windows options screen, select include Bin directory in windows PATH and Install as Windows service options and press Next button. In the security options screen, enter a password for root user. Remember this password. DO NOT select Create An Anonymous Account and press Next button Press Execute in the next screen. This will start the configuration. Once configuration is done press Finish button to exit the wizard.

Thats it. Your MySQL installation is done and it is ready to serve.

3. Java Installation
iSalePoint uses java. Download the Java Virtual Machine(also called as JRE) installable. To download JRE, go to http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp and select the latest JRE. As of writing this document java 6 update 21 is the latest available download. Click on Download JRE link. Select the platform and accept the license agreement to start download. Run the installer to start JRE installation. Accept all default and press Install in the first screen. After few seconds(yes in few seconds), JRE installation will finish.

4. iSalePoint installation
Preferred way of getting iSalePoint is the package zip file. Download the zip file(32MB). Extract the zip file to any location where you want to store iSalePoint application. Note: After extracting if you see a folder called config, remove the folder. This folder exists in earlier versions of iSalePoint-all package. After extracting run the iSalePoint.exe to start the configuration. 1. 2. 3. Press Yes button to start the configuration. In the database setup page specify the database details. If you are running the iSalePoint in the same machine as the MySQL server, leave the host and port to its default values. If not specify the machine name and port details of MySQL server. 4. Specify the root password. 5. Press Next button. 6. In the Company details page enter company name and address and press Next button. 7. In the next screen, enter the country and currency details. As of writing this document, only two countries are enabled for testing. 8. Press Finish to start the Configuration. 9. Once configuration is done, a login screen will be shown. 10. Close the login screen and now run iSalePointAdmin.exe to start administration console. The first step after the configuration is to change the admin password. Launch the admin application. open the current user settings. Click on the menu Manage > Users, to launch the user settings window. Click on one search icon to open the list of users. As this is the first time you are opening admin console after configuration, you will find only one user, admin. Select the admin user, the screen will show admin user details, change the password and press Update button to save the changes. You can create any number of users in this window. More details about user management later.

5. Structure of Administration application UI


Administration UI look and feel is different from that of POS console. Admin application has lot of components to manage and lot of fields to use.

Three main parts of UI are Side bar: This portion of UI will show the most relevant actions for the UI currently displayed. For example when you select product management option for application menu(3), department, category related side bar menus will appear. Action UI: The window, with the fields for the selected operation. Menu: Normal application menu. Any command can be launched from Context menu as well as application menu. Every application window is provided with a help button to provide details on each field in the window and valid values for the fields. All the fields marked in blue color are mandatory. You cannot proceed without entering a value. Exception to this is the Ids, where it will be updated automatically by the application. This document will mention such instances. In the following illustrations, screenshots will be shown when the UI looks different from the earlier explanations.

6. Configuring iSalePoint
iSalePoint configuration window is as shown in the following picture.

The configuration window has three main categories to be configured.

General
General configuration options include the basic configuration details. They include database connection details, date format RFID settings, country and currency settings. As of now only few countries are supported for testing.

Transaction
These are the options used in POS terminal. It includes rounding option, loyalty modes and customer options. More details on the options are available in window Help.

Billing View
This configuration screen control, how the POS console will look. It has options to select the fields to be visible in the POS screen.

Process of inventory management starts with creating stores, terminals warehouses. If this instance of iSalePoint is a single store, single terminal setup, you can ignore steps involving crating of stores, terminals and warehouses.

7. Managing stores
To create a store, select the menu item Manage > Stores to launch the store configuration window. At the configuration stage, iSalePoint created a store with the name you have provided on the configuration wizard. Other than this if you want to add more stores, press the Reset button and enter the value for store code, store name, address and phone number.

No index entries found. After entering the values, press Add button to create the store. Follow the process to add as many stores as you want. To edit an existing store, enter the store code/name and press the search button ( ) next to it. If you are not sure about the name, clear the field and press the search button. This will pop-up a search result window.

Select the required store and click Select button to bring the store for editing. Change the values you want to edit and then press Update button to save the values. If you want to delete an existing store, select it using the same procedure as you selected it for update and press the Delete button.

8. Managing Warehouse
Warehouse stores good before moving to store. This setup is optional. If you do not have a store you can ignore this setting. To create a warehouse, click the menu item Manage > Warehouse. If the side bar menu is open, you can select this option from there too. Once the warehouse create window is open, enter the values for warehouse name and address. Address is optional for warehouse and press Create button to create the warehouse. Update and Delete operation is same as that of store.

9. Managing terminals
Terminals represent one computer system running iSalePoint. If you have a single system, not need to create terminals. If you are using multiple computers running iSalePoint, create terminals using this screen. Terminals are specific to each store. So, you can duplicate the terminal Id among stores. To manage terminals, click the menu item Manage > Terminal

10. Managing Vendors


Vendors are suppliers of goods in your store. Create the vendors by clicking the menu item, Manage > Vendors. Vendor details will be used during purchase order creating, product inventory management.

11. Manage Departments


Departments are top level grouping of products. For example, a store can have an Electronics department, Grocery Department etc. Managing department is same as managing store, warehouse etc. To create/update/delete department, select the menu Manage > Products > Departments.

12. Manage Categories


Categories form a second level of grouping for products. At category level you can specify discount, tax for the products, instead of setting it at individual products. Categories are managed under departments. For example Electronics department can have categories like, laptops, TVs etc. To create and manage categories, use the menu Manage > Products > Categories.

13. Manage Products


This is place where individual product details are updated. This UI does not allow you to specify the stock details for the product. Instead, you can create products, assign barcodes and specify the price details.

You can get details of the fields from Help content. Discount and tax are taken from the selected category. But you can change these values for individual products.

iSalePoint can generate product code for each of the product. But you can use the product code that comes with the product. You can find them on the barcode on the product. Keep the cursor in the product code field and scan the barcode. Before doing so, uncheck the Auto-Generate option.

14. Creating Purchase Order


Purchase order is used for procuring product stocks from vendor. It is not mandatory to create purchase order. You can directly add the items to inventory without purchase order. Purchase order is created per vendor. For example if you want to procure computer components from vendor X and vendor Y, you have to create one purchase order each for X and Y.
