On Ran 4 we have started to use PROtect tapes from the beginning! Out of experience from other boats before. Chafe
PROtect CHAFE is a pressure sensitive tape using UHMWPE (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene) lm with an aggressive acrylic adhesive. The result is a very tough material, with the highest impact strength of any thermoplastic presently made. It has extremely low coecient of friction, is self-lubricating and highly resistant to abrasion (15 times more resistant than carbon steel). Typical applications: dragging lines over the deck mooring ropes mast and spreaders under the boom to protect it from spinnaker/gennaker sheet pad eyes on the deck for blocks and hardware daggerboards stanchions battens and sails

Shock
PROtect SHOCK is a further evolution of the CHAFE products, combining UHMWPE lm and alyphatic polyurethane resin lm. The alyphatic polyurethane resin lm is laminated between the CHAFE lm and a modied acrylic adhesive and nally protected by a siliconised paper to make easy die cut, handling and application. The product is made on demand and tailor made in the width and length required. Any CHAFE lm can be used, ideally the thicker ones to make it resistant to abrasion and shock from blocks, press locks, snap and halyards shackles. Mask
PROtect MASK are tapes combining lm of highly tensilized skived modied PTFE (a synthetic uoropolymer) with a high temperature silicon adhesive. Our lms have the highest tensile strength per unit, toughness and high temperature resistance of any PTFE product. The low friction coecient together with the resistance to abrasion oers an ecient solution to many wearing and tearing issues. The extremely low coecient of friction of this lm is only second to DLC (diamond like carbon). Riggers and sailors call our best seller PMG050 the millionaire or gecko tape. Typical applications: running rigging bobstays and strops standing rigging, spreaders and turnbuckles forestay, backstay, runners and other cables all uneven or irregular surfaces ideal for wrapping parts where build up can occur

Interior
PROtect INTERIOR is a foam PE laminated with LDPE and a removable acrylic adhesive. It is the ideal solution for protection of delicate surfaces such as the boat interiors. The lm is conformable therefore suitable to protect uneven and round surfaces, very easy to apply. The low grammage adhesive is strong enough to guarantee a good adhesion and at the same time the low tack do not damage the surfaces protected; additionally no stain or adhesive residual once removed. This is a great product to protect the boat whether in construction, delivery, boat maintenance or racing. It can be used in combination with thin CHAFE to create a protective slippery surface on the companion way, dinette or cabins in case sails are stored inside the boat in a cruising yacht temporarely converted in racing mode.

Loopx
PROtect LOOPX combines pressure sensitive tapes with embedded high strength bers both made of UHMWPE. The thin and strong adhesive has two functions: to hold the longitudinal ber in the desired position and to guarantee the adhesion between the layers when the loop is manually made. The bers are extremely light and this leads to an extremely high strength on weight basis, making it the strongest man made tape. With LOOPX high load or small loops no longer require skills and expertise, complex sequence of operations, complicated steps and tools. It is very practical, translucent, extremely light and strong. Anybody can make his own loop in the length required, even very small and in just few minutes. The rst part of the tape is without adhesive to easily make the rst turn and then the adhesive, initially protected by the liner, guarantees the adhesion of the rst and the following turns. Headfoil
PROtect HEADFOIL is the ideal protection against damages to your plastic or metallic headfoil from severe contact abrasion of rotating spinnaker/guy or because of gennaker sheets during internal gybe. Its a combination of special polymers and strong adhesive. The standard product is suitable for small boat up to 40 and available in two colors: PHT (translucent) or PHB (black) whereas PHP (high performances), available in light grey, is strongly recommended for larger yachts or whenever a superior resistance is required. The dierences between the two versions are the polymer, the temperature resistance and the type of the adhesive. All products are very easy to use and apply because already cut to the standard sizes of your headfoil systems and custom sizes are available on demand as well.

Wrap
PROtect WRAP are self-amalgamating modied polyisobutylene tapes, designed to stretch and stick to itself, forming a very strong and waterproof bond without leaving sticky stains on your boat ttings. The products are available in black and white. Wing
PROtect WING are solutions for wingsails. Wing are dierent, we did realize that three years ago and a sound program was put together to create a complete range of products for this conguration of sails, representing the future of racing and sailing. The lm for the wing is available in dierent gauges, all very strong, tough, clear, biaxially oriented, heat shrinkable polyolen based lm. Our solutions have high shrink force for superior bundling capability, superior tear, impact and abrasion resistance, high gloss, clarity, excellent printability and UV stability. All lms are full fully compatible with the assembling tapes. The link between the lm and the carbon bre wing frame is guaranteed by special double sided adhesive with polyester carrier and asymetrical acrylic adhesive on both sides. The result is an extremely light tape with high shear strength, UV stability and easy to apply. A perfect wingsail required an additional thin layer to cover and protect the edges of the lm and give the nal touch the sail of the future.

Composite
PROtect COMPOSITE are PTFE tapes either glass coated or plain suitable for a wide range of applications requiring excellent release, dimensional and superior thermal stability. They can withstand the most challenging requirements and extreme operating conditions such as the composite construction. Release of composite part from the tooling on ejection is also key benet of a properly designed mold and release characteristics normally relate to the coeecient of friction of the molding surfaces It is important to realize that the coecient of friction is not a material property, but a property of the contact system therefore inuenced by the hardness, thickness, uniformity and smoothness of the surfaces. COMPOSITE tapes aid in mold release, providing a low friction, essential for small or negative draft angles.

Rope
PROtect ROPE is a smart and clever idea to identify your ropes, halyards, running rigging and sheets. Its a heat shrink polyolene tube with shrink ratio 2:1, available in dierent diameters to cover all possible needs. Simply insert the tube at the end of rope you want to identify forever, gently heat the tube using a suitable heat gun or hair dryer and the tube will wrap up it. You can write on it some relevant rope information for you (use, manufacturer, conguration, sailing hours, ect) with a permanent marker pen and log it using the unique serial number. Shrink
PROtect SHRINK are PTFE heat shrink tubes providing a state of the art method for the application of a tight, protective covering to items that will be subjected to the tough conditions. The uoropolymer heat shrink provides the ideal method for the application of a tight, protective jacketing to items that ultimately will be subjected to extremes of heat, corrosion, shock, moisture, or other critical environmental conditions. Provided in the expanded state, heat shrinkable tubing shrink wraps intricate and irregular shapes with a simple application of heat. The application of heat shrink tubing extends life, increases reliability, and improves performance of the boat hardware. SHRINK has ratio 4:1. The product requires 650F +/- 25 (340C +/- 5) to recover.

Kit
PROtect tapes are the eective solutions for dinghies and one design boats. KIT are fully compliant with class rules, die cut, ready to apply on the boat. Optimist Kit (PMK066) developed by multi World Champion coach Fernando Alegre Happy and contains 29 pieces covering mast, sprit, boom, daggerboard case and rigging. Moth Kit (PMK001) has been designed and optimized by Simon Payne and contains a large selection CHAFE and MASK tapes for the bowsprit, centreboard, mast, spreaders, turnbuckles, cambers, outhaul and all uneven surfaces. Nathan Outtridge and Iain Jensen have created and signed our 49er Kit (PMK049) and contains 24 die cut items ready to be used on pole launcher, inside the kite throat, vang, rudder stock, jib lu just to mention a few. Laser Kit (PML003) contains a selection of CHAFE tapes for snug t of top and bottom mast sections (PML004), deck abrasion from the tiller, outhaul and centre board (PML007), two stripes for the mast step and mast collar (PML002) and UHMWPE disk for the mast step (PML001). Each item is sold separately as well.

CHAFE is the material used for patches ready to be applied on the boat. The entry level kit is PMK002 with six die cut patches the biggest in A6 size, followed by ve kits with dierent gauges with sizes from A5 to A4.
