Statement of Scope for the Annotated Bibliography

Washing our hands is taught at a young age to many individuals by childrens parents or teachers. Even though most kids dont understand the importance of washing their hands or the effects it has, they obey because it is taught to them so early. There are many reasons as to why we should frequently wash their hands and have good hygiene, especially when working in any type of food industry. Cleanliness and sanitation should be the most important rule set for any corporation. There are millions of harmful pathogens threatening our health as consumers. In the book written by Gabriel Thompson, Working in the Shadows, the lack of cleanliness and sanitation is making it harmful for employers all the way to consumers to work and buy safe products. Despite the fact that OSHA has set rules for industries to follow to prevent sickness, most dont take sanitation and cleanliness seriously in their working environment, causing people to become ill. This essay will explore the OSHA rules for sanitation in industries and how many industries actually follow good hygiene and sanitation versus those that dont. I will explain the harm that can come with lack of cleanliness and sanitation and how it is big problem in our economy today, shown through illness in consumers everywhere. Further, I will expand on the antibiotic use that is needed for animal consumption making healthier produce and a cleaner environment. I will talk about how sanitation is not taken as seriously as it should be and because of the lack of seriousness there has been an outbreak of disease in todays economy. In addition to these topics, I will explain the types of disease outbreaks and how it threatens people today and what kind of modifications that can be made about sanitation rules OSHA or any other Corporations have enforced on food industries. My information is based off my sources Cleaning power, National Provisioner, and Segal helping me develop my essay. Though I did not include the actual printed document stating the rules of OSHA on sanitation, the magazine Cleaning Power covers expands the rules and how they are enforced on companies in America. The National Provisioner news paper covers daily news and progress on the antibiotic use in any meat or poultry company making it cleaner and safer for the animals and the employees; I will need more sources on the antibiotic use today and the cost of sanitation in industries today. Segal explains the outbreak in disease caused by lack of sanitation from big to small food corporations and why it is such a big issue today. Together, these sources help me explain and defend why sanitation and cleanliness is so important and why it needs to be taken more seriously.
